Long Beach Hotels

South of Los Angeles you’ll find the laidback city of Long Beach. Set along a white sandy beach, many visitors are drawn here by the natural beauty of the area and the clear blue ocean. It’s also home to one of the largest shipping ports in the USA, with major cruise ships docking here on a regular basis, allowing you to start or end your vacation with a stay in this charming city.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is set inside an imposing glass-fronted building overlooking the docks. Inside you’ll find dozens of huge glass tanks full of colorful marine life, coral, and rare species, and outside there are talks featuring penguins, sea otters, and other adorable creatures. The RMS Queen Mary was permanently docked in Long Beach after being retired in the 1960s, and you can explore this grand cruise ship which now features a museum, conference rooms, and a hotel. The ship lives in the Long Beach Cruise Terminal which is marked by the imposing dome shaped terminal. From here thousands of passengers depart onto exotic cruises around the world, and the check in area is well-organized and has excellent facilities. The Shoreline Village has rows of quirky, colorful buildings overlooking Queensway Bay, and when you stroll along the wooden decks you’ll find unique boutiques, laidback restaurants, an antique carousel, and fun fairground rides. California State University Long Beach has a laidback vibe thanks to its location close to the ocean; and the sunny campus is home to the distinctive Walter Pyramid where basketball, volleyball, and even jujitsu matches take place.

How to get to Long Beach

Long Beach Airport has regular flights across the USA, and is conveniently located just a 15 minute drive north of downtown. At the terminal you can pick up a rental car, arrange for a taxi to meet you, or book a place on one of the shuttle services. There’s also a bus that runs from the airport to downtown and the major resort areas, with the journey taking under half an hour. Long Beach Station is an Amtrak Thruway stop, and from here you can connect to services departing from Los Angeles and other major Californian towns, giving yourself a convenient way to travel.
