Mount Abu Hotels

Perched on a plateau, where mists roll in over lush, green mountains, Mount Abu is the only hill station in the desert state of Rajasthan. In monsoon season, Mount Abu becomes a verdant paradise, attracting Rajasthanis and tourists alike with promises of cool air, magnificent views and pleasant pastimes, such as boating on the lake. Mount Abu has plenty of culture too, with ancient Jain temples and beguiling Hindu legends. In this mystical mountain land, it’s easy to believe them.

Things to see

The town’s focal point is the serenely blue Lake Nakki, which is encircled by forested hills. According to legend, the lake was scooped out by a god using his nails – or nakh. However it came to be, the lake provides a superb spot for paddle-boating, kayaking or just strolling along the banks and taking in the views. The city centre, with its bustling market, selling attractive handicrafts and fresh local produce, is also worth exploring. There are numerous cafés and restaurants to enjoy - it’s a typically casual and slightly chaotic dining experience, but worth it for delicious Punjabi vegetarian curries and South Indian inspired dosas. Once you’re fed and fortified, hike up to the Dilwara Temples, renowned as the most beautiful Jain temples in India. The intricately carved marble pillars and sculpted ceilings are exquisite, illustrating religious mythology. It’s a unique Jainist blend of breathtaking beauty and humble simplicity.
