Where to stay in Tabanan

Exploring Petitenget Beach

If the hustle and bustle of Kuta starts to wear you down, simply head to the luxurious beach area of Seminyak. This gorgeous strip of sand is where most of Bali’s upmarket hotels, restaurants, and bars can be found. The atmosphere is noticeably more laid-back and more sophisticated than that of other tourist hot spots, like Ubud and Kuta. Seminyak, and its neighbouring beach villages of Petitenget and Batubelig, is the spa and boutique hub of the island.

It definitely helps to have enough cash to properly enjoy the amenities of Petitenget. But the vast expanse of gray-sand beach is free for public use. This entire strip of beach, from Legion all the way north past Petitenget, is famous for its reliably stunning sunsets. You can step back in time at the pretty Pura Petitenget Balinese temple to balance out the fancy meals and spa treatments.

Sights nearby

Petitenget is a superb base for accessing the neighbouring beaches of Seminyak and Legion. The big attractions in this seaside village tend towards upscale dining, drinking, and shopping. But traditional Bali is never far away, in the form of temples and quiet hamlets.

Pura Petitenget
The one big cultural attraction at Petitenget Beach is its 16th-century Balinese temple of the same name. It may not be one of the island’s key nine directional temples, but Pura Petitenget has a lovely seaside atmosphere. Visit during a Hindu ceremony day to witness the temple and its backdrop in its entire colourful splendour. As a key temple linking the other coastal gems of Pura Tanah Lot and Pura Uluwatu, it gets it fair share of attention.

Petitenget Beach
The gray sands of Petitenget Beach seem to stretch endlessly in both directions. To the north is the tranquil village of Batubelig, while to the south is the chic enclave of Seminyak. This is an ideal section of the coast to stay, with some stunning resorts like the Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort to create just the right backdrop for your trip. Many visitors come to Petitenget Beach each evening for its sunsets, which are among the best on the island.

Just to the south of Petitenget Beach is the hub of the action in this area. Seminyak is overflowing with posh spas, cute boutique shops, and a wealth of upscale dining and lodging options. From resorts like the Anginsepoi Villa, you can be within minutes of the amenities and the beaches of Seminyak without the added expense staying right in upscale Petitenget.

Eating and drinking and shopping nearby

This part of Bali is renowned for its range of high-end spas, shopping complexes, and restaurants. Nearly all of the luxury resorts, like Alila Villas Soori, have onsite spas that will blow your mind. These places are also typically good spots to have dinner, as their in-house restaurants are among the best on Bali. Seminyak and its outskirts like Petitenget are also home to some of the hottest shopping on the island. Start along Jalan Laksmana and slowly work your way through the line of boutiques that feature the best artwork, fashion, and craftsmanship Bali has to offer. Plenty of hotels are within walking distance of this strip, like the affordable and comfortable Coco Hotel.

Public transport

While Petitenget Beach is noticeably calmer than its bustling neighbour to the south, Seminyak, travellers will still need to navigate traffic to get anywhere in this popular corner of Bali. Walking is one of the best ways to get around, but if the heat gets too much, along Jalan Laksmana there are always auto and motorcycle taxis ready to ferry you to your destination.
