Exploring Promthep Cape

Perhaps the most photographed and popular point in Phuket is Promthep Cape. Tourists flock up the island’s southernmost hill to watch the sun set over the rest of the island. Situated near Rawai Beach, Promthep Cape is busy almost every night with spectators wanting the best view of the Thai sunset. If you’re feeling adventurous, walk down to the bottom of the cape to get away from the rest of the snap-happy tourists. There is also the lighthouse here which has a small museum inside and a shrine adorned with hundreds of colorful elephant statues.

Sightseeing near Promthep Cape

- Yanui Beach

It's a charming little cove featuring good snorkeling, kayaking and fishing. During high season there is a line of sun loungers for hire as well as a stand that rents out masks, fins, kayaks and body boards for very reasonable prices. The sand is beautifully soft and children love to collect shells on this beach.

- Windmill Viewpoint

Windmill Viewpoint is located between Ya Nui and Nai Harn beaches in south Phuket. Not far from Phromthep Cape, it has several tall, slim white windmills facing out to sea that look like airplane propellers. This hilltop viewpoint is quieter and less full of tourists than Phromthep Cape. Windmill Viewpoint is also a meeting place for model airplane enthusiasts as well as hang gliding types who ride the tropical thermals, eventually coming to a graceful landing down at Nai Harn Beach.

Transportation near Promthep Cape

Taxis are widespread across the island and offer the most convenient means of getting around, but visitors also have the option of hiring their own car and exploring the coastline. Motorbikes are available for rent from guesthouses and from local rental agencies. Locals get around using large minibuses on fixed routes.
