Very clean room and breakfast lovely, hot, high quality bacon, sausage etc . Pets welcome in the bar area only Mattress too firm for our choice but this personal to each person . Nice touch of bottled water , various selection of small soaps, shampoo etc and choc biscuits in room . Very busy Friday night for eating so understandably bit of a wait find our table and take orders . Great food and beers !

A perfect pub with rooms

We had our wedding reception at The Eagle & child 17 years ago. We stayed for one night yesterday as a trip down memory lane. The fire was roaring when we went into the pub which was a gorgeous welcome on a grey and rainy day. It feels like a proper pub- friendly staff and locals. Love the quirky decor with all sorts of random objects that have been collected. The lighting make it feel cosy. We sat all afternoon chatting and drinking. We went up to our room which was spotless and tastefully decorated. All we needed for a nights stay. We then ate in the pub - fantastic gourmet burger!! and stayed for the weekly Thursday club which was good fun. An excellent stay, perfect pub and highly recommend the accommodation. Thank you

Top class in all aspects and I travel a lot and am quite picky. Lovely country pub, food top notch, great range of real ale. Couldn't really fault.

Enjoyable stay

We had dinner at the E&C a couple of years ago so knew that it was cosy. Attending a birthday party at Caris Green GC we remembered that they had rooms here. Six of us (in three rooms!) had a really comfy stay and an amazing and plentiful Cumbrian breakfast. Loads of walkers using the pub with its handy function room providing a spacious dining area to add to the busy pub.

Perfect little pub

Absolutely lovely in every way. The pub is straight out of central casting. It’s exactly as an overseas visitor would envisage an English pub to be. Great food, fun and friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere and perfect clean room, great ensuite and super comfy bed. Lovely indeed

Check this place out

Perfect location for the lakes -Afternoon spent around Windermere [5min drive down the road] - We used it as a stop off on the way up to Murrayfield [Edingburgh] which worked out perfectly. Old English style pub with bags of character, spent the early evening by the open fire talking to the locals before dinner and the Quiz night. Highly recommended; we will be back for the lakes and some Fells.

Quiet location on river convenient for purpose. Lighting a bit dim as no main light in room.

Clean, modern room and lovely views.

Great hotel, room was clean, modern and had everything we needed. The view from the room was lovely and the beer garden by the river was a pleasant surprise! The staff was kind and polite and the food was delicious and plenty. Just one thing that would be more of a recommendation than a critique - I would suggest the breakfast offers other meat options alongside pork.

The Eagle & Child is a cosy characterful pub in a quiet village just outside Kendal. It's our favourite place to stay for visits to relatives in the area. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms clean and cosy with comfortable beds and well equiped bathrooms and the breakfast excellent. This was our third stay and it won't be our last.

Even though it was probably the wettest day of the year, the welcome from the staff at the Eagle and child was warm and friendly. We arrived early and they gave us our room anyways, comfortable pub style rooms, with small but efficient bathroom set-up. Cozy bar with a fire going, great for pre-dinner drinks. We ate out with friends so can't comment on dinner choices but the breakfast was amazing. All in all good value for a comfortable pub stay
