About this cottage

The Fish Camp cabin is located on the Bon Secour River. The Bon Secour river has historically been a "working" river for shrimp boats and fishermen. Commercial shrimp boats ply the river and use Bon Secour as a base from which they travel all the Gulf of Mexico. The name "Bon Secour" was given the river by French sailing crews who found the river to be a safe haven from storms. The very name means "good anchorage" and "safe harbor." During the Civil War the South used the waters of the river to obtain salt and for years the remnants of the salt pits could still be seen. The Union army recognized the importance of the salt production and mounted a specific attack to destroy the pits. An example of a Southern mansion, "The Swift Cole House " is located within one mile of the fish camp and is available for touring.

The property includes a long dock on the river with two covered sitting areas. Boat dockage is available for guests. A boat launch is at the end of the street. The cabin is part of an original fish camp, consisting of ten cabins. The Fish Camp cabin was believed to be the owner/manager's cabin as it consisted of two bedrooms where the other original cabins were efficiencies. The Fish Camp cabin has been renovated with all the amenities, but keeps it's original, rustic character. The cabin has beamed ceilings and heart pine floors. The cabin has a living, kitchen, and dining area combination. The cabin also has a charming fireplace updated with gas logs. The wooden furniture was made locally by a Bon Secour craftsman. There are two bedrooms with a hallway and bathroom separating the bedrooms. The kitchen is completely furnished for cooking your favorite seafood recipe. New refrigerator, gas stove, microwave and dishwasher are available for guest's use. The kitchen has new granite countertops. A storage building next to the cabin contains a clothes washer and dryer. Designated parking is available next to the cabin.

The fish camp's spectacular 150 year old liveoak tree overlooks the river and dock and there is a swing for use by guests. Within walking distance of the cabin are two fish houses where fish and shrimp are unloaded directly from the boats. Fresh caught gulf shrimp are always available and fresh fish include speckled trout, flounder, grouper, red fish, mullet and many other species. World famous Bon Secour oysters are always available.

There is a front screened porch with river views. Guests can see shrimp boats traveling up and down the river. Dolphins can frequently be observed swimming in the river. The area is excellent for fishing right from the dock for speckled trout, redfish or flounder. Guests will have access to a crab trap, to try your hand at catching blue crabs. If you don't catch your dinner, there is an excellent restaurant close by, the Tin Top. You can't go wrong with anything ordered there.

The location is also perfect for those wanting beach access, but a more private, quaint setting. Beautiful Gulf Shores beaches and all the beach attractions are close by. The State Park Facilities provide beautiful beach areas, and a long fishing pier. Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge has hiking trails and beaches. Fort Morgan is a historic site and also has public beaches. Designated bird watching sites are throughout this area.

The Bon Secour Fish Camp is perfect for those wanting a unique beach and/or fishing experience without the hassle of beach crowds.

The Fish Camp is a little "off the beaten path". Perfect for a week end getaway or longer term rental. Come and enjoy!

    Would definitely recommend

We would definitely stay there again. My favorite part was seeing dolphins in the river right off the dock.

    Wonderful location

My son and I loved this place! We spent so much time at the dock across the street. Fishing was great. I also loved the community, everyone was so friendly. Close to Gulf Shores. The house itself was cute and had everything you might need for a stay.

    Excellent Quiet Cottage

Our experience here was simply amazing. We were looking for something unique for the holidays and that's exactly what we got. The cottage had access to the dock where we spent a number of mornings watching the sunrise and evenings watching the sunset. The road it was adjacent to was quiet and everyone in the area was very friendly. Linda and Gil were very responsive and informative about the area. We didn't know what to expect because Bon Secour is off the beaten path of all the tourist traps, and it was perfect! We'll definitely stay here again and as often as we can! Thank you for such an amazing opportunity!

Sweet rustic riverside retreat near Gulf Shores

We enjoyed our stay in the fishing cabin. Our favorite aspects were a peaceful neighborhood, immediate access to the river and fishing, and the screened in porch where we had coffee.

Small little cottage off the beaten path

This was a super relaxing stay! If you are looking for a low key vacation this is perfect. It is super off the beaten path and you can literally just fish or read all day by the water. We watched dolphin everyday play by the dock. So many birds to watch too. The people who live their full time are super friendly. You can watch the shrimp boats come in for the day and walk down and grab fresh shrimp and even hush puppies!! The cottage is super quaint. It’s is older and not shiny brand new but that’s part of the charm! We loved the bell by the front porch and sat on the porch every morning and at night. We will be back again. It was the perfect getaway for our family to truly unwind.

    Think I LoVE Rustic!

Just landed here in Arkansas and already miss Gulf Shores. Heck, I missed it as soon as we left. Had a super time and stayed in such a cozy rustic cottage convenient to sightseeing and fun, yet hidden from the hustle and bustle. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and didn't even see anyone until weekend arrivals at the other cottages. The coziness is supplemented by the cutest rustic pieces of decor. Fell in love ESpECiALLY with the mirror in the bathroom!! Lots of other sweet pieces added to the ambiance of the "home". Never really knew rustic until now and I think I love it (*_*). If I could give Gil and Linda a 15 for communication I would. They were great!

    Planning our next visit

The cottage was exactly as shown online. It was very clean and very comfortable. The peace and quiet make it hard to believe that you are so close to Gulf Shores. The owners were very welcoming and we felt that they were truly glad to have us there. We are already planning another trip.

    Cute little house

Cute and comfortable little house. It had everything we needed for our short stay. Very quiet area! We didn’t get a chance to checkout the fishing dock because we had rainy weather while there. We noticed a couple of things that needed addressed in the home, but Linda was super sweet and said they would get taken care of.
