First and last time at the Westminster Hotel
Disappointing first stay at the Westminster Hotel. At check-in, I was entitled to an upgrade dependent on availability. I was told that I had been upgraded. Unfortunately, this was not the case- the 'upgraded' room was a standard room. The walls are very thin, other guests can be heard coughing in adjacent rooms. When other bedroom doors were slammed, my bed shook. A lot of noise from those talking in the corridor prevented me from sleeping properly. It seems that the rooms are not properly insulated. I had a guaranteed late check-out with my booking. I was called twice by 2 different staff members at reception to inform me to vacate the room and that I was not entitled to the late check-out and I would be charged for staying in the room. When I informed them that I had this confirmed in my booking, I was told to come to the reception to show it as proof. The overall tone was condescending and rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. When I showed the confirmation at reception, I received no apology for the mix-up and I was asked to email proof of my late check out to the receptionist despite having shown it to her. The only positive is that the concierge staff were professional and helpful. I am frequently in Nice but I won't be staying here again.

Good digs on Promenade
Well maintained hotel. Great location on Promenade des Anglais. As is the case in many hotels in France, no face cloths are provided. Helpful and friendly staff in the restaurant.

Do not stay here if you want free access to spa
Part 2 of reservation fiasco- trying to cancel due to no free access to the spa After an hour on the phone with hotels.com for this initial issue, I thought it was resolved when hotels.com said that we can check out the next day and not pay for the following 2 nights. They next day I had a medical emergency and was not strong enough to check out. I therefore made a second reservation at the same hotel, thinking that at least I can stay in one place while I heal. Then Hotel Westminster alerted me that I have 2 active reservations with them for the same 2 nights. This was extremely frustrating, since I thought I had sorted the issue with hotels.con. When I explained this to hotels.com they said that I shouldn’t pay twice for the same 2 nights and that the Hotel Westminster will cancel my second reservation. When I checked out of the Hotel they said that they second reservation was made with Hotels.com and therefore they cannot cancel it or process a refund. I therefore paid Hotel Westminster in full for the first reservation thinking that the second reservation had been cancelled, as discussed with hotels.com. Then I saw the charge from hotels.com on my credit card for the second reservation. I was very disappointed since hotels.com had assured me that they are not in charge of the second reservation and cannot give me a refund. I immediately disputed this charge with my credit card, based on all of the above. And now i am still trying to resolve this…

Don’t reserve if you expect free access to the spa
i am a long time client of hotels.com. I travel a lot for work and for pleasure, and I always make a point to use your site and promote it. I am a gold member. But i have never, in my entire experience with hotels.com and with hotels in general, had such a frustrating time with a reservation. Firstly, i wanted to cancel my initial 3-night reservation because this hotel is misrepresented on hotels.com as having a spa - meaning that the hotel clients would have free access to the spa as with any such hotel. When we arrived there we were rudely told that the spa had a price per hour and had to be reserved in advance. So we were treated as any other person from the public, not as who hotel guests who reserved a hotel precisely for its publicized access to its spa. When I called hotels.com to complain I was given all the excuses in the book why we shouldn't expect free access to the spa. I was told that it was not specified as 'free' under the amenities. Neither is the air conditioning. Should i expect to pay for that? The fact is that the spa was not specified as an extra charge under the rubric outlining charges, and we made our decision to reserve the hotel accordingly. Then ensued another fiasco about cancelling the reservation (will outline in a separate review).
