Having stayed at Caribbea Bay 30 years ago I had very high expectations and should not have been disappointed when the hotel did not live up to my expectations as it is now 30 years older, with little maintenance undertaken. We were booked into a standard room and were dismayed to find the curtains hanging haphazardly, bath and bathroom walls covered in mildew and roofs on the adjoining units missing and our view obscured by a run down block with stains and leaking gutters. Walking through the hotel we noticed that most of the building were in a similar state of disrepair, the second pool was not working and the "beach"had been washed away. We did not wish to raise these issues, but after persistence by Maureen (F & B Manageress) we discussed the matter with the GM - Amanda Matema - and what a fantastic lady. She conceded the hotel's weaknesses and confirmed that they were busy with upgrades, were repairing the pool and the beach had been washed away 3 days previously in a serious storm. Whilst she could not refund any monies, she did arrange for an upgrade to a Villa and what a difference and this saved our holiday as the room was spacious, well maintained and had a fantastic view. I highly rate the professionalism of the staff but would not recommend the standard rooms until the renovations and upgrades are complete.
