Parking Policy Ruins It
We stayed at the Halliburton this past week and would not recommend it. Although it is located in a good area and is somewhat quaint (although it is much smaller in reality than the pictures suggest), it is expensive for what you get. Additionally, for a hotel I paid over $250 CDN for ($229 plus taxes), I was very disappointed by their guest parking policies, which are stated, in a frankly cagey fashion, on hotels.ca as follows: "There are limited parking spaces onsite and are available on a first come, first serve basis. Additional parking is available offsite. For more details, please contact the property using the information on the reservation confirmation after booking." What this does not say is that the additional parking is at a city-run pay lot that is about 2 blocks away, and comes with a catch. Although the hotel's check-out time is noon, if you do not snag a spot behind the hotel, you only have free access (on your checkout day, at least) to the offsite parking without paying, even if they give you a parking pass, until 9 am - so forget about sleeping in. You then have to pay the city lot $3.00 an hour to park there, if you wanted to stay at the hotel until your check-out time. The hotel refused my request for reimbursement of this amount - which is frankly quite stingy in light of the $229 room cost and not what you would expect in a hotel at this price point. Additionally, the continental breakfast was below standard for a luxury-priced hotel.

If you get the adjoining real estate, the building is old, rooms are small with lots of furniture, stairs are narrow with steep corners, no elevator and dated patio and balconies. Breakfast is nice with free parking.

Great location and a large room; breakfast average, but bed really comfortable. Staff very lovely.

Very good 8.0
This is a fine boutique hotel in Downtown Halifax. One nice thing is that it provides free parking, although it is limited and sometimes involves temporary street parking and having to move to an off-site overflow lot (which happened to us). The building is old and the basement room we were first assigned to had a hint of musty/mildew smell. The management tried to help and switched us to another room without smell (but with a private bathroom located outside our room across the hallway). Our stay was fine otherwise, and the complementary hot breakfast was very nice.
