Check price of drinks
Nice old traditional hotel, lovely comfortable room. Feature courtyard at rear with tables and service but BE AWARE its probably cheaper sitting in St Marcos in Venice. Check drinks prices before you order. Overall good but felt ripped off which is a shame.

Blenheim Palace weekend
Fantastic place to stay for Blenheim Palace, great food but did find the bar a tad expensive

A good stay, but could have been a bit better
Overall a good stay, just could have been a little bit better. We were in the main building and had a large bedroom and bathroom with loads of space. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom very clean. The towels were fairly thin and scratchy, not up to the standards of the rest of the room. We stayed for dinner and the food and service were very good. Drinks were very expensive, particularly after a service charge was added on checkout (supposed to be optional but hard to refuse when it's presented on your bill at checkout). Checkout was quite slow as a couple of people in front of us had problems with their bills. The £10 car park charge is pretty steep. We did manage to avoid it by parking in the road at the back.

Very average
Check in was good - we were able to check in 15 mins early. The room was clean and pretty large, but extremely noisy (the radiator or boiler was loud all night). Breakfast was poor, the ‘hand carved’ ham looked and tasted like cheap supermarket ham from a packet, the sausages tasted cheap and some of the pastry items seemed pretty stale. In addition, drinks in the hotel bar were extremely expensive for what they were and the cocktail tasted very watery. They also charge guests £10 for the car park on top of the room rate, which I only knew beforehand due to reviews, I don’t think it’s made clear on the website or within the car park, there’s only a sign once you get to the desk

Our second stay at The Macdonald Bear Hotel
This was our second time staying at this hotel. We were not disappointed! We had a deluxe double feature room and it was wonderful. One of my favourite rooms ever!!! I had asked for champagne to be in our room on arrival and it was there waiting for us. Scrumptious! We had a very good three course meal in the restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was professional but also very friendly. The only criticism was we thought the wine was a little overpriced. We had a very good breakfast the next morning and we were sad to leave!!! We hope to return soon though!! We love this hotel!

Amazing food
Lovely hotel, friendly staff. Prior to stay emailed hotel to book dinner reservation and ask about parking, replies came back almost immediately from Melody which is great service. We we in room 51 which I found a bit small and claustrophobic but that’s just me, the bed was super comfy! The food in the evening was amazing what a wonderful chef they have, the cod was so well cooked and the accompaniments went so well with it.... amazing

Beautiful hotel, good rooms and excellent service. We didnt feel the restaurant menu had as wide range as it could but plenty to choose from near by. Good drinks selection and cosy bar. Although they warn you there is a parking charge, it's a shame they do. That said we'll be back as we thoroughly rnjoyed the stay
