For a hotel that claims to be non-smoking (with a $250 fine if they come in after you leave and smell smoke), I was not expecting to walk into my room and have it smell deeply of cigars. The smell was embedded into the walls and waxed and waned over my two nights there, which I could not understand. If you have issues with that, don't stay here. The window in my room did open fully to let fresh air in, but did not have a screen (which surprised me).
Other than that, the room I was in was spacious. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean. I had no issues checking in or out.
The hotel is between two train/subway stops - 39th street (warning: there are hills between you and the hotel) and 21st street (much flatter). The walk was not bad and I did not feel unsafe at any time while walking back to the hotel around midnight, even though it was multiple blocks.
