    Amazing but not 5 star

Amazing place that unfortunately has not upgraded to the 21 century. Wifi is spoty and not all tv channels work. The breakfast is not something to write home about. Just your average breakfast. The croissants were aeveral days old. Overall is a good experience for the right price. Just not a five star experience due to the lack of 21st century upgrades

We went to this beautiful Palace for our 40 the wedding anniversary to have a unique experience of staying in this most beautiful building and it certainly didn’t disappoint us. The staff were friendly and professional and doing their best within COVID restrictions. We chose a superior room and that didn’t disappoint us either, the bed was comfortable and we had access to the ramparts outside, where we could look out to the gardens. The dining room was like a fairytale, the murals and the ceiling amazing. The dinner was excellent too. What lets this hotel down is the details. I didn’t mind that the room was a little small, but I do mind that the shower head was minute. I do mind that I can’t get a pre dinner drink at 7 pm because all the waiters were eating their supper at the same time, I do mind that that parts of the garden look dead and unkempt, because thats’s all so easily remedied and unacceptable in a five star hotel. We had a better breakfast at a three star hotel in Obidos. That is not right when you are paying such high prices for a night’s stay. I think that the hotel’s owners Almeida, and the Government, who own the building, are letting its staff and customers down, And most of all, doing a disservice to this beautiful Royal summer palace in such a beautiful setting, which is a shame brought about the hotel group and the country. Please, paint the windows and sort out the gardens properly, so that you can feel proud of your patrimony.

Worth the visit! The property and forrest are wonderful. The bathroom has pretty outdated fixtures and could use an upgrade, and the property needs better upkeep in the garden, but don't let this prevent you from going. It's still a great experience. The bar and restaurant are wonderful.

    No notification of cancellation given.

We went to Bussaco Palace Hotel on June 1 exited to be able to spend our first year wedding anniversary only to find out when we arrived there that our stay had been cancelled. No notification had been sent to us...This is very very bad indeed. We expect a refund of our money urgently and also at least one free night as a compensation for the costs and the inconvenience that we had in connection with this very unfortunate situation. Please also from now on do not use a South African agent for my bookings as I am based in Europe and not in South Africa.

Very unique property in the former hunting palace. If you're a 5-star snob, this hotel is not for you. But if you like charm and uniqueness then this is definitely worth it! the food (and wine!!!) definitely worth it too! Totally did NOT experience the negative experience some others have noted. May be also the level of expectation.

    Prepare yourself to be enchanted

AMAZING!!! Don’t listen to the reviews complaining about shoddy rooms or whatever else - this place is straight out of a fairy tale. The interior and grounds are awe-inspiringly beautiful. The staff (shout out to George) was incredibly kind, accommodating, and helpful. The food was delicious. We have only overwhelmingly positive feedback for this historic and cultural gem nestled in the misty hills and green forest. Worth the detour from Porto. We are thrilled to have stayed here!
