I would not stay here again
I stayed in the room with balcony. View was beautiful, but balcony was too dirty to use. Spider webs everywhere and the chair had so much dust and fungus. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was ok. Service at the outdoor restaurant was terrible. They would not give you menu until you ask and then no one will come to take the order. I gave up on ordering and just left. Location is very convenient if you want to be close to the Cambridge campus.

Beauty is only skin deep.
Looks great, and the location is superb. However, this is a budget hotel with a facelift that defines the phrase beauty is only skin-deep. Ambitions of grandeur without insight into guests' expectations. In the afternoon, with the garden full, there was no table service. Night-time bar service was terrible, not the guy's fault, he was single-handedly trying to deal with about thirty thirsty customers, we gave up waiting at the bar after 25 minutes and went to our room. Where we found the shampoo and body wash (the kind nailed to the wall of the shower, classy!) were both empty. The corner of the rug curled up dangerously such that we tripped over it every time we moved between the bed and the door or loo, since it was in the middle of the thoroughfare. The lasting memory will be the truly awful, cheap, poorly presented, Travelodge standard breakfast. The staff were understanding and apologetic in that resigned way that implied "We know, we've heard it all before".

Two nights in Cambridge
Great location by the river Cam. Restaurant and bar very pleasant rooms. We felt the bar was overpriced e.g. £15 for a 250ml glass of white wine ! Breakfast was not included in our room rate, it was £15 per head with no charge for children < 12. Pretty mediocre below average breakfast in our view. Limited choice and range of foods e.g. only fried eggs (more hard boiled than fried !), on both mornings some hot food stations were empty and we had to wait for them to be replenished. Also be aware that they slapped a service charge on the cost of the breakfast without making it clear this was done. Bit of a cheek since it was entirely self-service ! Like many hotels they had one of those ridiculous toasters which takes what seems like 10 minutes to make one slice. Day 1 it took three cycles round to get the bread even slightly toasted. Day 2 one side of the bread was incinerated in 2 cycles. Room was ok and clean enough, the small balcony area was disgusting and hadn't seen a brush or duster since Isaac Newton's days. Would have benefited from some shelving / storage space in the bathroom as nowhere to stand stuff really. Cleaning staff came in the 1st morning to replenish the room, they artfully folded some towels but failed to leave any milk, replace the used teacups or provide additional toilet rolls. We told reception and they brought more milk and toilet rolls (but didn't replace the dirty cups). Staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful.

OK, wouldn't stay here again.
I'll start with the pros: location is great, a minute from Marylebone High Street. Rooms were clean but TINY, very very difficult to even have your suitcase lying flat in the room. WIFI is decent. Cons: rooms are old and very small - anywhere else in the world I doubt this hotel could charge more than $50 a night. One night we didn't have hot water, but otherwise it was fine. Our major con was with customer service. Please note - this hotel does not offer proper luggage storage, but rather the luggage is left in the main lobby without any luggage receipts or tags. We were rightfully a little concerned about this and asked if our 2 small bags with valuable could be left behind reception or in one of the offices. This happened on Sunday 24/7 - the man on duty (who was lovely) required the permission of a woman at the neighbouring property. The woman on duty was incredibly rude, questioning why we were upset and dismissing our "behaviour" and putting this down to "cultural differences" (we are still in shock at how rude she was). We did get upset, at which point she stood her ground and was quite obnoxious towards us. Again, all we asked was that 2 small bags could be put somewhere a little safer - but this was considered too much of an ask. Overall, it became very clear that customer service was not a property for this place! We visit London about 5-6 times a year. I don't think we will be staying here again!

We loved the place
It's a beautiful property and the rooms were great, We loved the AR you can see through their app, which teaches you about some of the famous Cambridge graduates. Service was nice, breakfast was awesome and well priced. It's located a bit on the edge of town, but the town is so small it doesn't really matter and it's right next to the river, punting boats and park. All in all, a great stay.
