A brief stay at the Imperial Delhi
on a business trip, I extended as my wife joined and we toured Delhi for a day, Agra for a day, and Delhi for a final day before departing to Istanbul. The Imperial was a perfect location because it was centrally located to the downtown location of many historic and valuable places that could be visited, but walking was not possible from this hotel, needed to have vehicular transportation and that's really the only hindrance Otherwise, facilities were fabulous, dining was reasonably good but overpriced, and the service at the facility was wonderful. Beds are a bit firm and the local regulations seem to limit the ability to reduce the thermostat in the rooms below 20C, which can be bordering on the uncomfortable at times.

Lovely but not worth the price
First, the positives: the Imperial is an undeniably beautiful hotel, with excellent food and some great amenities (like free yoga classes). However, a couple of problems popped up during my stay that will make me stay in a different hotel next time I come to Delhi. I used a hotel car and driver at one point early in my stay, and the driver was relentlessly pushy about getting me to book him as a tour guide the folllowing day. It was pretty offputting, to the point where I booked the rest of the activities for the trip with companies outside the hotel (which I completely recommend, as the prices were much better and the staff more professional and pleasant). There was also an extremely loud wedding happening on the hotel grounds one night of my stay. The music was blaring in my eoom and there were lots of flashing lights. Eventually I went down to the lobby to ask to switch rooms (and to the imperial's credit, they switched me into a nicer room) -- but it was still an inconvenience, and the sort of thing that I wouldn't expect at a luxury hotel. Lastly, the electricity briefly flickered out a couple times during one of the nights of my stay, which was alarming.

Given a wrong room configuration with two beds initially. Room changed then to a king bed where the shower did not work properly and there was no hot water. Disappointed, specially as they feel that their core value is all about providing great service.
