Overall I was not happy with this stay, although the room was good. This is not a chateau. Part of it is a remodeled ancient hospital but my building was actually 20 years old. Actually its a cluster of buildings and it took 8 minutes to walk through 4 buildings to get to my room. Its a full mile from the train station, and around the hotel itself is nothing much, other than an unattractive river front. Although its overshadowed by some chateau on the hill above. Its about 1/3 of a mile to the Main Street which is fairly routine. Virtually the entire clientele is retirement aged people. All of the front desk staff seemed to be 18 year-olds who didn't particularly care about any kind of service at all. Neither them, nor any of the staff spoke English very well (even compared to most hotels in Germany). The food situation is very confusing. There are three restaurants. But it turns out one was rented out to a private group and not available. The other one closes at 6 pm. The combination of all of these little flaws made a horrible time for me. It was Christmas Eve, and I understood I could buy a slightly expensive dinner after 6 pm. It turns out, I could buy that until 6 pm. When I came down at 6:30 I found that the only eating option was to pay about 50 eu for a horrible dinner. Every single place in town was closed. Every element of the dinner was below standard, and I left half of each thing un-eaten. This was an expensive mistake to stay here

This was my second stay in the past 6 months and breakfast has been disappointing on both occasions. It needs improving with a wider selection.

Baroque magnificence. Was unfortunately way too full. So that the breakfast buffet was overrun and the Servers (coffee, tea etc) were slightly challenged.

Hotel was beautiful. It was built as a hospital in 1787 and renovated into a hotel in 1989-90. The hospital chapel is still in the building. Friendly staff, great location just down the street from the cathedral. Be sure to check local holidays. The museums and some shops were closed Oct 3 for Reunification Day.

No AC nor mini bar at a 4-star hotel. Didn't like the 1/4 mi long walk though 4 corridors to my room.
