Nice hotel stay but toilet bowl gave us issues
Dated exterior but updated room. Location is very near a train and subway station but would be a long walk to the cruise port. This 4-star hotel is attached to a 5-star “sister” hotel where we mostly hang out in their much better and bigger lobby, and went up to their 7th floor to have a birds eye view of some parts of the city and port. However, I enjoyed the location with our earlier hotel stay near Genova Brignole station which offered more restaurants, shopping areas, and tourist attractions, all by walking distance. Brignole is also the station if you want to go to Cinque Terre, Portofino... Our room (138) was quite big compared to other rooms we’ve stayed in Europe. It had a 50 inch TV and a big sofa. Bathroom was big too. Only issue was the toilet bowl which was very moody, sometimes it flushed with one push, and at other times it required several pushes. I reported it to the front desk and a maintenance guy came by but determined there was nothing wrong. Our issue with the erratic toilet bowl persisted for the whole stay. Taxi charged us a “pre-set” rate of $15 for about a 2 mile drive from the cruise port to this hotel. A taxi ride cost us also $15 when the meter was used for a much longer ride to the airport.

Extremely comfortable, great staff & service
-We booked this last minute so we could go to Cinque Terre for the day and still be closer to the airport for our departure the next day, and we were very happy with it! -We were lucky to get a free upgrade to an executive suite. We also had a bottle of rose on ice and a complimentary bottle of water. -The view of the train station square was nice, although you could only see it with the window/doors open and looking that way. -Pretty large bathroom with tub & rain shower -The bed/pillows we’re in top 2 most comfortable on our trip, which was nice on our final night for our tired and sore bodies (we are seriously getting old!). I think I would have rated this hotel #1 and hubby rated #2. -City tax €3/person/night -Parking was 25 euros! But, they park it for you and bring it back when you need it. -We didn’t book breakfast, so when we checked in, they offered us a “discounted rate” of €10/person if you book breakfast at check in vs. €12/person if you decide later. We didn’t end up getting it, but she told us it was a large American breakfast buffet. -elevator is ancient - it felt like we were in the tower of terror elevator. Really cool, but a tad difficult to manually open & close two spring loaded doors at the same time with two big suitcases and carrying a bunch of other things. -Walkable to the marina

Great hotel, not a city I felt safe in, especially
A two night stop over as part of a five week vacation in Italy. Perfect location to the train station, harbour facing room top floor, no complaints. The buffet breakfast was outstanding and service from all staff exceptional. The issue I had was with Genova at night. I did not feel safe (of all the cities I have explored during his trip at all times of the day/night) If you are wanting to dine out or explore take a cab. Two other guests were in from of me in the first night walking ahead and were mugged. I had been walking on my own prior and felt very unsafe in the laneways and side streets around the port and main streets from the hotel. Be careful, aside from that, an interesting city and great shopping. Penny

Genoa - Beatiful jewel
Great location. Once you get over that there are two hotels and the check-in for one closes at 11pm and you need to use the nicer hotel for check-in. There was a stale smell in the room and the cleaning crew fixed it within 30 minutes after we told them. Hostess Mounia at breakfast is a buzy bee. She was considerate and yet swift in servicing and replenishing things which ran out. Started out bad and we warmed up to this hotel. The location is great and most places are close by. The Euro 25 for parking per day is a bit too much.
