Good
In need of some upgrades...
Noisy. Thin walls. Housekeeping started vacuuming upstairs at 8:50 AM Sunday! Could hear people getting in and out of bed, talking in hallway, walking on floor above.

Tired and stinky hotel.
We were placed in the “historic part” of the building. No elevators and a steep climb up 2 flights of stairs to our room with luggage. Upon entering, what was most noticeable was the smell- a musty, dirty, dusty scent that lingered through the entire room. Next to the bed we’re slippers- rubber slippers usually reserved for the pool or spa which were clearly re-used from other guests (totally disgusting to put those on in my room, save it for the spa only). The pool staff was understaffed- took 30 minutes just to get a towel. We were told among other businesses in Sonoma that the Fairmont has undergone many changes in staff recently- it shows. It will be difficult to find some positivity here, except that the city of Sonoma is beautiful and well worth the visit, albeit at a different hotel.

This place tries to rip you off from the second you walk in the door! The front desk personnel are awful. I tried to check in at 1:50 PM and she said there would be a $100 charge for checking in before 2 PM (10 minutes early). Then I requested a room with 2 beds and she wanted to charge $70 extra per night. When I did not agree to the ripoff, she proceeded to make me wait over 2 hours to get my room even though it was vacant. On top of that, they did not even call me on my cell phone to notify me that I could check in. They charge you $35 a night resort fee for use of the facilities and parking, but if you want to use the spa facilities or sauna they hit you for another $60 per day! The parking lot is so small that you can not find a space for self parking. Guess what! You get to pay for valet parking since they have the entire parking garage reserved. The spa charges are about double what you would pay at a comparable facility. When it was all over and done with, my bill for incidentals at checkout was literally more than I had prepaid for the room and taxes in advance.
