My Worst Hotel Stay Ever
We stayed at the Herald for one week. When we checked into the room, none of the promised amenities were there. There was a bed but nothing else. The end tables, chairs TV fridge coffee maker, etc were all missing. We complained about this several times, and were promised that they would bring up furniture, which they never did. We did get one end table eventually, but no fridge or other amenities. We also asked multiple times for a different room, but we’re told they had none. The hotel also did not have any toilet paper or soap, although they did provide us with one tube of shower gel to wash our hands. After several days they brought us some toilet paper. On the second night, the air conditioning went out. Our room heated up to the upper 80s, and it was too hot to sleep comfortably. Despite it being cold in NYC, we were never able to cool our room down by opening the window (which was also broken, and needed effort to open). We complained about this multiple times, without results. The first two engineers came to the room and pushed some buttons and said they “fixed it”. Next they said I had to wait until the next morning when the “main engineer” came in. Then they said the AC guy was coming tomorrow, then the next day said he couldn’t see all the rooms and wait another day. I threatened to leave, but Jay the manager promised me a large discount if I stayed. Needless to say the refund never came. Jay seems like a nice guy, but never came through on his many promises

Nice little hotel in a great location
Great, friendly staff, especially John, who checked me in and out. I got a great room with a view of Herald Square. It didn't have a TV, but I didn't need one, anyway. All the elevators broke down one morning, but they managed to fix it right away. The location is fantastic, there's access to the subway and PATH stations right outside. Reaching it from Penn station is also very easy.

4/10 Fair

Beware of hidden prices and renovations.
Hotels.com advertised at a low price yet hotel then tacked on hidden fees which doubled the price. When we arrived we were told the rooms were being renovated. TV was on the floor. No Bed side tables just the hole in the wall where they were once attached. No hangers in closet. The outside noise level was VERY LOUD. Old window that didn’t seal very well. Elevator was stopping on each floor going up and down and we were on the 17th floor. I wouldn’t return.

8/10 Very good

Luck or actually good?
Pleasantly surprised. Read a lot of bad reviews of this place scamming people. So, I was extra nervous. But it was super close to the subway, had a view of the Empire State buildings. The staff was friendly. They only cleaned when requested, but did a good job. It was right in the heart of midtown. Location made such a difference! Glad it ended up working out because we had a great stay.

The most embarrassing excuse of a hotel
This was the worst hotel I’ve ever been to in the city. I was here for Fashion week and from the advertisement photos it looked like a good option and right near some food/drinks. Upon arriving I realized the hotel was actually the bar. It was dirty, there was no bathroom, the “luggage storage” was in the hallway of the bar entrance. There was no lobby and barely a front desk. The front desk men were scary and made me feel so uncomfortable as a solo 22 year old traveler after following me around prior to finding the hotel then telling me “I watched you go to the wrong place”. I never even proceeded to check in none the less stayed in this place. The actual hotels around highly advised against me staying there as it is unsafe and “an excuse of a hotel”. Hotels.com promised me my cc would not be charged after a 2 hour long phone call and my card was still charged almost $300 and I’m still fighting with the website and the hotel to get my money back. I had to pay over $500 to stay in a safe hotel nearby on top of this dump still charging me.
