Fascinating historical building, wonderful view of harbour from top floor restaurant, very helpful staff. But grubby throughout, walls, doors and furnishings particularly so. Food in restaurant uninspiring and overpriced. Second bedside cabinet and light missing in deluxe double room, only provided when I made a fuss at Reception, showing the photo of room as advertised (much better appointed!). Waited until 2.30. p.m. for room to be cleaned next day. Over time, became reconciled (resigned?) to the situation, and look back with some fondness, but only because of the personal charm of some staff members and the hotel’s undeniable character.

Serendipity Doo Dah...
It's in the name: a grand, old, lovely establishment... Pleasant, friendly staff... Just the one Lankan restaurant in da hood: Pillawoos, with the standard fare of short eats, biriyani and so on. Very much a man scene... I could hear clearly midnight yapping from the next room, so the old walls must be thin which is surprising. One thing that bugged me was the Xmas jingles being played in the lobby and lift... Why not some Lankan mini-bus music?
