A Blot on the Arran Landscape

Poor staffing levels with only one worker at breakfast caused significant delay. Poor choice of breakfasts available due to food shortages. Porridge selected but delayed whilst staff went to local shop to buy it. Room window unable to be closed and was hanging off at an angle. Maintenance man arrived promptly and stated that we needed to move room due to hazard. He also noted broken handles on drawers and TV without a remote control . He was advised by staff that no other rooms were available therefore he had to secure the window, which he did after about an hour. With the window closed, the room was like a sauna and we had to leave the door fully ajar to allow ventilation and cooling of the room, much to the surprise of passing guests. We had to advise cleaning staff not to attempt to open the window as it may injure them, which came as a surprise to them as they had been told it was fixed. Our visit to Arran was lovely except for the time spent in the hotel. I would recommend visiting Arran but would advise visitors to avoid the Glenisle.

    Won’t be stayed here again

I would not stay there again. The bathroom wasn’t clean to a high standard. There was a used towel left in the cupboard in bathroom. Under the sink was dirty. The TV did not work properly, even though I told staff, nothing was fixed. Only able to use one channel, and no remote control on room. The breakfast was poor, as chef unable to cooks eggs properly and full of grease, or butter. I even didn’t have breakfast the next day there, as was put off.

Extra mile - yes and no

Pretty satisfied. Good price. Good (but pricey) food (maybe a trifle salty - why not use less salt in the kitchen and let people add it at the table if they want to? Arran is not tropical, yet!) Our ferry was delayed, and the ferry company made us leave our (pre-booked!) car behind (long story), but we phoned ahead and the hotel kept the kitchen open for us. Bike storage a bit rudimentary, but OK. Has an e-car charge point. Cheery staff. Room clean. Only one vegan option on dinner menu, despite staying 2 nights, and main components of vegan breakfast out of stock (blaming Brexit - sounds reasonable, but local shop has them...)

    Fine dining

Fantastic small hotel with excellent fine dining experience. We have dined in some high quality restaurants and this was definitely up there with some of the best. Staff were friendly and efficient. Views from the hotel amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Uncomfortable nights sleep and a no show breakfast

The room was very small and in the roof .The weather was very hot and the window only opened a few inches .The window caught the sun for most of the day so we had left the window closed and the curtains drawn when we left for our days exploring to ensure the room would be as cool as possible .Whoever cleaned our room left the curtains open and the electric lights on !Consequently the room was like an oven .When I complained to reception I was told that was standard practice .I asked for a room change which they couldn’t offer ,they also had no fans as they said they had been damaged in a flood and offered me two bottles of water and two small bottles of Prosecco as compensation . The next morning after waiting 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive the waitress informed us that she had called the head chef as there was a problem with a new chef .As we were on a time frame for leaving she paid us in cash the cost of the breakfast and we left after two very uncomfortable nights sleep in a very hot tiny bedroom . The management seemed very unprofessional .

    Cosy hotel and fab staff

Lovely little hotel, with really friendly staff who were always keen to help. The breakfast was really nice, with decent vegan options. They also let my wife make a couple of changes to suit her allergies

    Deeply disappointing Glenisle hotel

The breakfast staff were friendly but every single food order was incorrect (over 4 days stay) e.g. fried egg instead of poached, given beans when asked to leave them off, missing sausage, missing parsley, white bread instead of brown etc. On arrival no towels whatsoever or shower gel or hairdryer in room. Requested 2 towels and was given one and two face flannels which was then disputed by a male staff member the next day. Another day I returned in the evening to again find no towels or soap or shower gel. Window was left open and all lights put on for some reason which had attracted 2 mosquitoes which I then had to catch and kill before going to bed. I found the room really small and cramped and definitely not what I was expecting for £120.00 per night. The bed was small, lumpy and uncomfortable. The duvet was too thick and no sheet available to use instead. So generally speaking a really disappointing stay at your hotel. I will not be recommending it to anyone.
