Exceptional 10.0
The Residence Inn
The location can't really be beat and the hotel has made a serious commitment to trying cut the noise from the streets out of the room. You can't be well-situated on a street loaded with pubs and have total silence ; however, the city view rooms have two double-pane windows and thick curtains which seems to do the trick. The rooms also have disposable ear plugs in case it's a particularly noisy evening. In addition to the location, the rooms are very nice and there aren't any issues with poor WiFi connections or slow bandwidth. Everything seems fairly new and there's a bottomless supply of N'espresso in each room. There's also complimentary bottled water (glass bottle) that's restocked everyday (or on demand if you ask the staff). If you drove to Galway, the hotel has arrangements with a few of the local car parks. I'd recommend the Hynes multi-story since the one near the hotel can be a bit cramped. The Hynes one is about a 5-minute walk away and has loads of space. Just park there and then get a hotel discount ticket from the front desk. When you leave, insert your ticket followed by the discount ticket and the rate will be adjusted (to €8/day at the time of this review).

Hot Spot Hotel
Very modern, kind of funky ( in the fun sense of the word) and right in the middle of Galway’s busiest neighborhood. All sorts of nice amenities, and comfy beds.

Room not as noisy overnight as expected
We were very pleased with this small hotel located at the end of Quay Street in the tourist district. It was a little hard to find by car but there is a very cramped and somewhat difficult to navigate parking structure shared with the Jury's Inn which provides hotel-endorsed parking. After learning that it is easy enough to arrive and depart by car while also placing you in the bar/restaurant/tourist zone. The hotel is above the 1520 Bar and from our 4th floor room above Quay Street we could hear the activity below until late, but even with the windows open for summer it really wasn't too bad and we slept well. However, on the Thursday morning very early 5am (?) there was a lot of clattering and truck movement as that was the trash day and when businesses took delivery. The beep-beep of maneuvering vehicles and disassembly of the outdoor seating areas to accommodate truck movements was louder than the entertainments of the night before. That may be unique to Thursday mornings. Not sure. Regardless, we would certainly stay again.
