      Oh dear, oh dear

Oh dear! What a very disappointing stay. From check in to check out we felt we were an inconvenience and we were very glad to depart. If Basil Fawlty was around this would be his ideal home. Check in was unfriendly, unwelcoming and rather rude. The lift, an antiquated affair, with two noisy sliding doors did at least work but must have disturbed the occupants of nearby rooms. Our room was quite the smallest hotel room we have ever encountered, more akin to a small single than a double. It was also insufferably hot. A fan had been provided but this was not up to the task. Breakfast was adequate and greatly helped by having friendly staff. If there is one thing we can thank this wretched Covid pandemic for it is the demise of the dreaded breakfast buffet. Table service it was and this proved fairly efficient. Our breakfast was cooked to order and was of a fair standard. Pastries were old and rather stale. I feel desperately sorry for much of the hospitality industry but if the pandemic could clear away places like this then it would be doing us all a favour.

Nice place to stop whilst in Scarborough.

We had a nice little break staying at the Riviera. It’s situated perfect in Scarborough. Just a few minutes walk to the main shops, bars, restaurants and beach. Apart from the squeaky floorboards and ridiculously sprung internal doors banging shut, it was pretty quiet. Our room was the top floor at the back, pretty small and basic but clean and pleasant. Breakfast was nice and the staff were fantastic. Overall, a nice place.
