    Better than expected

After reading a few reviews, we did wonder what it would be like, but we had a great stay, the staff were very attentive and answered any questions we had, they were very friendly and professional. The room was nice and big and although we could hear the fans outside, it really wasn't a big deal. The room was nice and clean and had plenty of room for our possessions. The breakfast was lovely, the food was cooked to perfection and all came out in a timely manner, we also had the Sunday Roast and it was really good, so much food we couldn't manage a pudding. The restaurant was clean and everyone was well spaced out. All in all it was a great stay and we would stay there again.

    Dissappointing !

This pub is extractor central, rejected first room e with extractor going ten to the dozen, second room no better. The only rooms extractor free are at the front of the property, requested this, no luck! I just felt an air of apathy which wasn't the case with our last stay at a Marstons pub.

Good food and polite staff and cleanliness is usually of a good standard. However on this vist it was not up to standard, used tissues in the corner of the clothes hanger, hairs in the bath and surfaces looked grotty, surprising considering extra cleaning care shoud be taken during the pandemic. Luckily we carry alcohol cleaning wipes with us. Also we were in room number 1 which was very noisy, clattering and banging outside and loud fans buzzing all the time.

Good location, easy parking. Nice large lounge/restaurant, not crowded (in these uncertain times!). Very pleasant helpful and chatty staff. Great stay.

Overall the stay did the job, however when compared to the other accommodation we stayed this weekend (Innkeepers Lodge Hathersage and Curbar Hillside B&B) at the same money this stay was well below par. The bathrooms were dated and cramped, the food was similar or worse than Weatherspoons. It did the job but we won’t be returning to a Marston’s.

Dont be fooled by reviews or * ratings.

I dont often leave reviews unless I am very very disappointed, but as I found out with this visit somtimes reviews are very mixed so not really reliable , also 4 star rating debaitable. As a regular user of hotels via my employment I would like to think I could pick a safe one when visiting with my partner, but on this occasion I was let down by the following. 1.Upon arrival Left waiting at reception for no apparent reason ? 2. The two girls on reception where polite and tried to be as helpful as they could, when one of them asked there purple haired manager for advise I was not impressed , as she did'nt realy react and didnt seem to careless. ( very poor management & undertrained staff ) 3. Very bland bedroom, although fairly clean, the room was situated next to an outdoor extraction system that rattled away all night ( so restless sleep ) 4. No one available at checkout 10am , which was strange as there seamed to be plenty staff . 5. This review is not a fault of the staff who seem to try there best or of the cook who delivered the meals, I can only put it down to poor management . I hope this review helps others like it might of helped me.
