    Unreasonable management. Be careful.

My partner accidentally booked this stay and within 2 hours I was contacting to have it cancelled. In my experience and the experience of the customer service reps, hotels tend to allow cancellation when it is requested within 24 hrs of booking and weeks in advance of the actual booking. But no, Hotel Espresso was completely inflexible and refused to cancel it. I contacted the hotel directly and told them I’d pay a one night cancellation penalty. They didn’t budge. I later told them I would pay a 2-night cancellation penalty. They became totally unresponsive. Whenever I called, the person at reception said the manager wasn’t in and that they didn’t have set hours so they couldn’t give me a time to call back — this was from the very start, before this escalated to a real problem. So the point is this: this hotel wants your money and doesn’t care about its reputation or service standards. Their manager doesn’t have regular hours. Their front desk staff dodge questions. And they are seemingly irrational, not allowing me to pay a 50% penalty weeks in advance... when surely they could rebook the room and end up getting paid MORE. I’m sure they’ll respond and say I’m being unreasonable or because this was a “non-refundable” rate. But mistakes happen and when a customer calls within hours to try to correct it, you treat your customer like a policy/computer and not like a real person. I have easily adjusted reservations with other hotels. This hotel is the only exception.

This place was amazing. So close to the center and everything was walking distance. But then if you wanted something less crowded that is also walking distance. I would definitely stay here again!

Would not bother to stay again - average hotel

The service is average - nothing professional or overly friendly about the staff. The hotel is dated and seriously needs some colour and getting into this century. It is shabby and has boring decor, uncomfortable chairs, staff that don't seem happy in their job. The room we got was nothing at all like the photos shown when we booked it. It showed 3 beds and instead we got 2 beds and a fold down cot. The room was cramped and the worst was the bathroom - who puts mood lighting in a room that you need to see what you're doing? Seriously wrong and dumb. The curtains were ripped and coming away from the tracks. It was dark and the outlook from the window was more buildings. There was nothing that would make us come again. Location perhaps, but no, not really enough to warrant a second visit. Way too overpriced also - just because it is in Amsterdam shouldn't make it justifiable to charge such a high price.

Location was great, right next to the tram stop and round the corner from the museum district which had the Christmas Market. The Hotel offers free coffee and tea in the Lobby with a communal seating area/lounge which is truly lovely. Great staff and can’t do enough for you, so helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable and have a fresh supply of towels and toiletries everyday. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to the fabulous Amsterdam!

not worth your time or money..

I leave reviews for ALL the hotels I stay at. So this is an honest review. This hotel is a place to sleep. The location is good, but this hotel is as boring as it comes. They must call it espresso for a reason. All the walls and furniture are brown like coffee... i guess i missed something? Anyways, glasses weren't clean in the room, hair and stains on the wall. Water damage. It just wasn't great at all... Really regret speding money to stay at this hotel especially since the reviews weren't bad when i booked it.

    2 thumbs up

Hotel was a in good neighborhood. Close to the tram to go to city center. Front desk was excellent. Rooms appeared updated and clean. Only suggestion is that the mirrors need to be adjusted. I’m 5ft 3in, and it was difficult to see in the bathroom mirror because it seemed too high. There was a full length mirror by the door but with no adequate lighting around it. Really minute details, I know. Would still recommend this hotel!
