Don't go by misleading photos taken 10 years ago!
Good points… The young lady who seems to single handily run the Skylark is very friendly and very helpful and VERY well presented. Free parking. Shower was ok and quite large. Bad points… The hotel is in a state of disrepair! DO NOT judge this B&B by its photos (You have been warned). The garden is a health and safety issue with decking sticking up, screws sticking out, fencing down, fish pond trashed and the entire area a complete mess… The rear part of the garden has turned into dumping ground. Continental breakfast ok, but then you have to wash and dry up anything you’ve used! Building has massive cracks in it, including the room we stayed in. How long will Covid-19 be used as an excuse? No room service for the entire 2 nights stay and bins in our room and breakfast area left to over flow from the day before!. (See photo) In some areas there are toilets for anyone to use. NOT A CHANCE. Dirty and have not been cleaned in at least a couple of weeks. Our single wardrobe was listing at about 20 degrees and was at risk of falling over (see Photo). Our bathroom was really dirty and looked like it had the basic of cleanliness. (See photos). I would challenge anyone who gives the Skylark B&B a score above 4 and I’ve stayed in some shockers before! Unfortunately, I would consider Skylark to have several Health and Safety issues and would think that they would be luck to scrape by with a 1 or 2* rating at maximum…

It’s not my nature to be negative but….
Firstly, the girl who worked at reception was amazing. Very polite and accommodating and did an amazing job. She was kind enough to let me put my bags in the room early before check in time. The room itself was very clean, small, but nothing bad… and that’s what you pay for… the problem was the owners, or the friends/family of the owners. They all hung out in the rear dining area. The room stunk of cigarettes, despite all the no smoking signs. There was an older lady (the owner or relative) who started criticizing my appearance. I have long hair, so called me a hippy and questioned my “drug use” etc. I am Clean living person who has never taken drugs and I have a good working position. The following morning when I tried to get coffee, she interrupted me and said “I thought you were a woman” and told me to cut my hair. Very rude and obnoxious. (Nothing I would normally complain about). But during the night, one of the family members was using the front room as an office or something. All night he was on the phone, shouting (not talking) to relatives until 3 am. I could hear every word… the thinnest walls… and then another male joined him to have a loud discussion in the hallway right outside my door. I had earplugs but they didn’t help. I banged in the door and they were silent for 30 mins before continuing I finally left the room, and I slept in my car. I had just flown from the USA and was in desperate need of sleep… I really should have a refund… but that’s life

Great place for a low budget!
It actually is a very nice place to stay. Great location with plenty of choices for food, corner shops and tube station next door. Vicky the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. It provides free Continental breakfast, which was good. Has a nice big sitting area to dine. Two things the hotel lacked was an elevator i.e. a lift for those guests with rooms on the 1st floor - Hassel pulling luggage up the stairs. secondly, an electrical socket in the bath for those using shavers/trimmers. My room had an individual heater, which did the job. Will I stay here again? Yes, I will : )
