Great place
We loved sala Rattanakosin for its location and service. Arthur at the front desk is a gem, so helpful and went out of his way to help book things like cabs, packed breakfasts, etc very comfortable rooms but we stayed during much needed renovations so some common areas like stairways were a little rough. Overall I would give it a 4.5 stars

Excellent staff and great location for sightseeing
The only downside to the hotel is that it’s at the back of an alley that’s used as an unloading area for stores/restaurants. I never heard them unloading, but you have to dodge around trucks/trolleys/workers going to/from the hotel. With the exception of that, everything about the hotel was great. The staff spoke good English and were helpful, the breakfast overlooking the river was great (I had the chicken and rice that came with various breads and jams to try), the bed was comfortable, and staff even left various infused waters in the rooms to try that were all good. Hotel was also located right next to a market, right across the street from Wat Pho, and right next to a Tuk Tuk hub, so getting anywhere in the city for really cheap was a breeze.

Sala Rattanakosin is awful
This place is horrible. It is located at the end of a dirty alley, around working warehouses with men moving heavy boxes all day long. The alley smelt of sweat and cat urine. There is no elevator and we had to walk up a staircase filled with extra chairs, etc. The room was filled with run down and heavily stained furniture. We booked for 3 nights, paid for 2 nights but left the second day. The service staff, with the exception of one young lady, was rude and had bad attitude. The doorman tried to scam us by telling the taxi to charge 200 Baht for a 80 Baht ride. The only positive of this hotel is the view of and closeness to the temples and the grand palace. There is no way that this hotel qualifies as a 4-star hotel.

Worth coming here for the view alone!!!!!!
You have to come to this hotel for the view from the roof top bar at night, let alone the standard of the food. the bar opens at 1600 but wait until dark for your first visit. The view across the river to the illuminated Temple on the far bank, then turn through 360 degrees and look at the other sites also illuminated, then sit and have a cocktail watching the party boats, river taxis, rats tail boats and huge tug and barge combinations float (or speed) by in warm, balmy temperatures, what is there not to love? Couple that with the quality of the bar food and the restaurant food and fantastic doesn't sum it up. Do not be put off by the route into the hotel which at first site look like some sort of seedy, commercial alleyway; it's just traders going about their daily business and actually adds to the atmosphere. Staff were really helpful and friendly too. This hotel is away from the main collections of hotels and all the better for it because the others do not have the views this one has. Loved it and will be back

Superb room, view, service, and food - Suite Room
Our stay at the Sala Rattanakosin was absolutely amazing. I don't normally review places, but I felt their review score doesn't do them justice. We stayed in the Suite room and it was absolutely stunning. It is honestly the best room we’ve ever stayed in, better than any 5 star hotel I’ve been in. It is incredibly spacious with ample light, and the view of Wat Arun and the river is breathtaking. The bed was very comfortable and the large, soft couch is great for relaxing during the day. Any place on the river is going to have an issue with odor, but luckily the room has an oil diffuser that keeps it smelling fresh. The staff were great, very attentive for our entire stay. We were welcomed with a delicious drink and cold towel when we arrived. There was even a flower arrangement in the room for our anniversary which we really appreciated. The food, as well as the included breakfast, was the best food we had during our month in Thailand. The fusion of East and West was perfectly balanced. The gazpacho was the best we’ve ever had, dare I say it better than in Spain. Complements to the chef on the menu. The view at the cafe, restaurant, and rooftop bar is wonderful. The restaurant was a little understaffed for dinner, otherwise it was perfect. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we highly recommend both the hotel and restaurant for any special occasion. We plan on staying here again the next time we visit Bangkok.
