Exceptional
Nice place if you are ok with communal bathrooms
I booked a room here the same evening I stayed, as it was not planned for me and my parents to even spend the night in Tokyo. This hotel had a room available so I took it, despite the high rate. (What do you expect though, it was a Saturday night). We walked from the Ueno train station which took about 10-15 minutes. The host at the reception desk was so kind and spoke English. The communal toilet didn't bother me, nor the communal shower being on a different floor (there is a curtain for privacy with 2 shower stalls). I would stay here again in a pinch.

My new home in Tokyo!
Hotel Graphy is better than advertised! Close to the Metro, great places to eat, Ueno Park with all its treasures, Ueno Station, etc etc. I will tell all my friends to stay here. You should stay here, too. -Tommy, Southern California.

Good
It is more like a hostel
Just be careful when you book this 'hotel' as not all of their room has bathroom and toilet.

Lovely Place
The location is PERFECT, just near Ueno park, and close to both the JR (and Shinkansen) stations, as well as the subway if you prefer to walk less. The actual hotel rooms are humble, but have full amenities and you can choose whether you want a shared bathroom or not when you book on this site. The room was a semi-double(?) and did not feel particularly cramped or anything. The entire staff knew at least a little bit of English, and were all friendly enough without being nosy or intrusive either. I am personally the type that does not really like having long conversations with the staff, and everyone respected that and was very nice. They also have the cutest cafe in the lobby, and my stay included a daily free drink (your choice of a soft drink, beer, or coffee I think.) To be honest it was not the best food I`ve ever had, but it was a really nice atmosphere. What`s more, we stayed 7 nights, which is pretty long by Japanese standards, and had NO issues the entire time. They also had a very generous guest cell, which you can take outside for pictures and whatnot for free, and then the information is deleted automatically after a certain amount of time.
