Nice hotel
Nice hotel and good hospitality. We got complimentary welcome drinks, 10-min shoulder massage, afternoon tea/coffee at 3-5pm and a glass of wine at 5-7pm. Good location near to Chowrasta Market and plenty of food and eatery nearby.

An indulgent two day stay
Hotel Penaga was the 3rd hotel I stayed in in Georgetown. All the staff were great - very helpful and friendly. I had a very comfortable suite with a big bathroom and a little sitting area where the TV was. Bed and pillows terrific, bathroom good except there didn't appear to be too much hot water in the shower. Had a spa bath and hot water then wasn't a problem. One other complaint were the 40 steps up to my suite. If this is a problem, remember to ask for a room on a lower level. Also the hotel appears to be divided into 3 blocks with two of the blocks accessed from outside the main section of the hotel. This would only be a problem if it was raining. Breakfast was fine although the choice of Asian style dishes was a little limited. One could choose between four different types of cooked eggs. Good croissants and the coffee was drinkable. The bar area very small and not that inviting to sit and have a drink. I had mine outside beside the pool. Free massage is only 10 minutes and I didn't use the wellness centre. Free mini bar is only soft drinks and some juice. There is a mini mart just across the road.

Great stay
Lovely stay and location. Hotel staff, especially Diana and Hasrol were very helpful. They helped us with an early check in as we're traveling with elderly parents.

Stunning Conversion and Beautiful Hotel
This is by no doubt and amazing old renovated building that oozes character out of ever nook and cranny. Being an artist who works in glass I loved the stained glass aspects of every room and the whole operation is very classy. The lap pool is tiny but just ideal for a quick dip to freshen up after slogging the streets of Penang and the location is ideal for Chulia street, restaurants etc. The hotel also offers a few surprises like a free galss of wine every day between 5:30- 7:00, OK its tiny but a nice touch. The only downside we found is that being an old converted building (a taxi driver told us the architect who designed the conversion also designed the Petronus Towers in KL!!) the airconditioning unfortunately doesnot work very well. In our first room it hardly moved the air at all and wasn't even cold. After two complaints we were 'upgraded' but in this deluxe room sometimes the air blew freezing cold and sometimes not! Annoying when it decides to kick in at 2am and from being warmly asleep, suddenly you wake up with hyperthermia! All in all a fabulous hotel, shame about the aircon
