      Couldn't wait to leave!

When the rating is "Superb" don't believe it. After staying there last night we will never believe that rating again. Yes, this building is a 100+ year old wood house. However, it was obvious that no maintenance had been done to the grounds or the building in years. In the yard and driveway there were leaves everywhere. The flowers that died last fall were still in the ground, dead. The outside is filthy with dirt, cobwebs and algae was growing on the wood siding and even the glass window panes. I didn't know that was possible. Plus, there was a considerable amount of rotten wood that needs to be replaced. Inside, it is very dark with tons of dried out wood trim and paneling. It needs a good cleaning and then painting or varnishing to restore some level of appeal. Our room was about 10 X 10' and for some reason they put the bed diagonal. We had to turn sideways just to get around the room. There was no closet, one small chair and the worst lighting The walls were Mary Kay pink with that 70's look faded border/ceiling wallpaper. Yuck. And as for the ceiling, the paint was pealing off in large flakes. No kidding! I should have taken a picture. The bath was no better with a bathtub and no shower. The sink had severe rust on the drain and we were sorry we didn't bring our own towels. Be aware that breakfast is not until 9:30. We can't tell you about the breakfast because we left at dawn, just to get away from there. For $145 this was a HUGE rip off and a disappointment!

The place was full of history, beautifully restored, and lovely walking trails. I would ask about breakfast at check-in, as you may need alternate plans. While it sounded amazing, some folks, diabetic or not, cant start their day with only sugary carbohydrates. I'd have taken just a couple of eggs. Thanks again. We will be back with friends!!
