I liked the location and my cabin. However, there were several problems with both the hotel and the surrounding area.
It was impossible to sit on my terrace because of the smell, which came either from the public toilet behind the cabin or the cabin's sewage system. The view from my terrace was partly blocked by an antenna. On two occasions, people who didn’t belong on the property approached me—some teens asking for money (and there was no staff member present to supervise the property), and a man (who appeared to be an acquaintance of one of the cleaning ladies) offering taxi services. The area itself was not very pleasant to walk through. People walk their dogs there but do not clean up after them. There was a sewage smell in the streets, including on the way to the beach. After moving to another part of the island, I experienced none of these problems.
I often stay in small family-run hotels. I like a more personal atmosphere, with the owners making sure you are ok, talking to you, and giving advice. Here, it was very impersonal. I met the owner at check-in—actually, he was not even there. There was some guy who appeared confused and had no idea what to do with me until he called the owner and got instructions. I arrived after 15:00, which is the check-in time stated in the hotel information. The next time I interacted with the owner was at check-out. The rest of the time, only the cleaning ladies and the gardener were on the property, and they did not interact with me.
