Needs a bit of a spruce

The place is an older style building. I believe it was once a very busy pub as well as a diner. We just wanted somewhere to stay to attend a birthday in the family. Being totally realistic, the hotel could use some renovation, although I understand this is expensive. However, the hotel has no real excuse for its general lack of cleanliness. Stair carpets to the rooms is very poor condition, and the whole walk up to the landing and the rooms are a little bit grubby. Our room itself was OK, but the bathroom and shower did leave a little bit to be desired. The shower particularly had black mildew in all four corners of the tray, and the drain was partially blocked, which meant that the tray filled up quicker than it drained. Towels and sheets were clean. Breakfast was an option we took at our arrival. The breakfast itself, along with the service in the dining room was good. We only saw receptionist on our arrival, but we felt that the waitress in the mornings would answer any issues. It has the potential to be a fantastic hotel, but just falls short in the basics. If I had to score it out of 10, it would sadly just about score a 6.

    Very comfortable room

The room itself was clean and comfortable but was sorely let down by the state of the shower which had very black sealant. I was pleased to see and use a hairdryer.

This is not a pub with rooms. No food an bar shut at 6pm. The published picture gave the impression of a pub. We had to get back in the car and take a 15 min drive to get food for a picnic in our room. The room itself was excellent, very old beams and plenty or hot water for the big corner bath with jets. Decor was fancy with lots of colorful satin pillows and bed spreads. It's shame it's not still the busy public house it seems it once was.

    Honest review

Stayed here for one night as we were booked to go to the nearby Bush Inn. We were shown to our room, which was a lovely gesture. The room was very clean and extremely cosy. The bathroom was also clean and the jacuzzi tub was huge. We arrived back after our picnic bench by about 7.30 and were disappointed to see that everything was closed, we thought the bar would be open for an evening drink but nothing was open, we had to let ourselves in through a side door. This is not a complaint though as we should have asked if the bar would be open later and with the current situation with the Pandemic it was hardly surprising. We made the most of the beautiful gardens instead and sat outside with a bottle of wine. The only issue we did have was the lack of support if needed. Our jacuzzi kept turning itself on and it made the most horrendous noise, this happened every 15 minutes from 10.00pm to 11.00pm and then every hour past midnight and if I hadn't had a drink I would have gone home as we really struggled to get to sleep. We tried to ring the owners but they were unavailable and there was no number to ring if there were any issues. Thankfully, it eventually stopped and we managed to get a few hours sleep in the extremely comfortable bed. The owner rang us in the morning and explained the jacuzzi self cleans, we can understand that happening once but not numerous times over a few hours. Breakfast was lovely, the lady serving was extremely helpful and hardworking.

Family owned, all extremely polite, helpful and friendly. Nothing too much trouble. Knowledgeable about the area and what to see, where to go etc. Room was beautifully decorated and clean, plenty of toiletries/tea/coffee etc provided. They have diversified so have lots of lovely extras too! Will return and would highly recommend

    A lovely night away

We booked last minute and when we read the other reviews after we were a bit worried. But the bedroom was absolutely fantastic. Huge bed, huge jacuzzi bath that you’d pay a lot more for in other places. Small TV but worked well. Annoyingly there were 3 butterflies flying around the room when we first got there but we managed to get them out. Very loud creaking stairs and doors banging for a while at 5am but apart from that a comfy stay. Dinner was lovely and the desserts were especially good, really good prices too. We paid £45 for two main courses, two puddings and 4 alcoholic drinks.
