Great place!
Love the location and everything that is at walking distance. Hotel was a bit dark but it part of the vibe in my opinion and it was very clean with friendly front desk staff.

Exceptional 10.0
The Freehand in LA is a great boutique hotel. The taco truck that pulled up out front was amazing. The cleanliness of the building was spot on. The bar in the roof was fantastic as well. I was a little worried about parking, but there is a great public lot around the corner that’s open 24 hours a day and only cost me $12 to park overnight. Fantastic deal for downtown LA.

Disappointing Stay! Never again.
There are so many amazing spots to stay in DTLA, don’t waste your money here! The hotel itself was just okay, but the staff was not very helpful. There is no parking, which would have been nice to know beforehand (the listing is a bit misleading on this). You also still have to pay the resort fee ($17 a day) on top of the price you pay in even though all of the amenities are closed, which is ridiculous. We only chose this hotel because the rooftop bar looked awesome, but we didn’t even get a chance to go because it was completely booked during our three day stay by people not even staying at the hotel! When we went to the front desk to ask for help to make a reservation, they were unwilling to help us and told us we had to do it online. Thus, they do not save any tables for hotel guests. Also, we kept getting locked out of the elevator area and there is only one person on duty so we had to keep waiting in line just to ask someone to open the elevator door so we could go to our rooms. I emailed the hotel after our stay about this issue, and they said there was a scanner to allow you access, but if there was it is not easy to be seen (it is so dark in there!) and other guests also had the same issue at the same time as us, so I know they are not sharing this information at check in. Disappointing stay. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else!

Poor 2.0
No parking on site. No ice machines. No coffee.
No parking on site. Had to pay $28 a night for parking at a parking lot. They don’t ice machines. No view was facing a wall full. Rooftop access was limited even though we stayed there. No free coffee. No breakfast.

Good... but not great for the price
The freehand is a nice hotel, but I don’t think it’s worth it during covid. You can’t really access the pool because the restaurant has taken over the rooftop, and opens at 12pm... which is when we had to check out. The front desk wasn’t very informative about this, and also told us the wrong fee for parking. Overall it was still a fun stay in DTLA, but I probably wouldn’t stay again.

It was pretty good for the price The only thing I would say is the maids were not consistent with cleaning the rooms but the rooms pretty nice

Poor 2.0
Far too many Extreme Negatives
Prior to my arrival, I attempted to call the front desk multiple times and they never answered; not once. During my stay, I attempted to call here and there from the room and someone only answered one time. This left me in a position to either set aside my request / need or make the trip all the way downstairs to the lobby. It’s simply unacceptable. You could definitely have a front door person and/or security out front considering both the neighborhood and the fact that guests are forced to walk from a parking structure around the corner in most cases to get to the lobby. In today’s climate and world of hotels it’s unimaginable to not have regular access to ice. When I inquired with the front desk as to where I can fill an ice bucket (of which there was no container in the room), I was told I would have to go to the rooftop restaurant and ask them to fill ice in what I needed. That’s absolutely crazy for so many reasons, what if I needed ice outside of their operating hours which most days was from 2-10pm... In addition to that, I went downstairs (since the desk didn’t answer again) and requested two of the plastic cups (like what was in my room) and they said they don’t have any of that down there and I must once again go to the rooftop and ask for the cups. Frustrating is an understatement. At this point, I might as well been employed by the hotel instead of being a paying “guest”. Additionally, what if I needed Kleenex or toilet paper?
