Great stay with a note of caution
This is our second stay in the past few years, and the rich history of the hotel is an attraction in itself. The staff is beyond friendly and professional, so we feel at home. The hotel, the grounds and immediate surrounding area (Reynolda house, etc) are so great that you can explore for a weekend without a car (although a bit of walking needed to cover Reynolda, gardens, & village). The Graylyn tour is must-do because it gives such fantastic detail about the history of the house. And the free ice cream is always a winner! This is 4.5 out of 5 stars, easily. The only caution is that on our last stay the dinner (a bit pricey) was below standard. On this stay, the shower was used on three times (on different days/times) and the water was lukewarm each time. There should be no issues with dinner or water temps for an upper-end hotel, so minus a half star, and hoping that a third trip there earns back the missing half star!

Beautiful place but unfortunaly bad experience
When I came for the check in, the front desk started to tell me that my reservation by didn't work. Now the problem was they didn't have the room I reserved available. He started to say that I would need to pay much more. After discussion, he talk with his manager that told him to give me one of the available room for the same price. Very nice from them, even more that I was waiting with my wife and 2 kids (6 and 2 years). So, now the other problem was to wait that room to be ready. I arrived at the hotel at around 4:30pm. The front desk was not capable of telling when it will be ready, just saying maybe 30mn... I went to play with the kids in the garden to wait. After an hour I decided to go diner. Finally the room was ready around 8:30pm! Don't get me wrong, everyone was polite and nice, the hotel is splendid, the room was nice, the breakfast is great, and at the end I was upgraded. BUT for an hotel of that standing, you shouldn't have to discuss like that, you shouldn't have to wait so much for your room, and they should have done something to help me to kill the time with my family. So may be I was there the wrong day with the wrong guy at the front desk, but when you pay that much for an hotel, you expect something else.

Wedding day
This was a gift for my daughter and new husband. I was told there would be some extras since it was their wedding night but there were none. Other than that they said it was a beautiful room

We stayed in room 502. The mattresses in this room were not satisfactory. Difficult to sleep for anyone with a bad back. Please replace them. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. Special shout out to Stephanie for her warmth and attention to detail at breakfast time. We would also like to thank the butlers who worked on Thursday afternoon and Saturday evening. Both were very warm and willing to share the incredible story of the estate with our family.
