10/10 Exceptional

There is a lot of renovation going on at Reykjanes, but mostly that's on the exterior and doesn't affect the interior or your comfort in anyway. Don't let the exterior view of the building put you off. The place has an interesting history and they're building for the future. The small peninsula on which the hotel is located is interesting in itself with a salt factory, "hot beach", and of course the large hot pool. The setting and the views are pure Westfjords. It's a breathtaking one hour....or three hour drive to Isafjordur. Your choice. The restaurant entrees at Reykjanes are somewhat overpriced. Maybe the sandwiches or lighter fare are better choices, but breakfast is great and included, including smoked salmon and unique home-baked sweet breads. Besides the pool, there is an old-school (figuratively and literally) gym that has everything you need. Finally, it was here that I was treated to my first ever view of the northern lights. I have no words for it. All of us were hooting and hollering and invoking the deity. I'll come back here. Sorry I can't add photos. The site can't accommodate the size of my files.
