The staff tried their hardest to speak English and we tried our hardest to use what Japanese we knew and together we mostly understood each other.
The room was decently sized for Japan and very tidy.
I'm not sure if it was the language barrier or something else but the bath with the view was not accessible, though the one with frosted windows had generous opening hours and was very nice for a soak at the start and end of each day. The bath also allowed tattoos - without even covering them up - which was a very nice detail to learn!
Breakfast tickets had dates on them so keep track if you stay for several nights, and the food came in a decent selection of both traditional Japanese and western breakfast options.
With how close it was to the station (we saw our balcony from the platform) this was a very convenient hotel to book for exploring different parts of Akita.
