Lovely stay in updated traditional Chinese home!
I want to start by saying that I usually stay at Marriott, since I am a lifetime platinum member. However, I couldn't find a suitable Marriott hotel in ZhangJiaJie and the Glass House stood out to me when I did a quick hotel search of the area. I was cautious initially about staying here because of the low number of reviews, but I loved it. It is located at the top of a 10 minute walk upstairs, in the middle of a mountain close to ZhangJiaJie park. They have an English speaking concierge who can help you with booking taxis and planning your trip. The place is renovated from a traditional family home and is a family run. They did a great job with renovations - they have WiFi, air conditioning and updated features such as bidet toilets and mirrors with TVs in the bathrooms. I found the rooms to be spacious and quite comfortable. We stayed one night in a traditional home, and another night in the Glass House, which was a very cool experience. I preferred the traditional home for more space, but the Glass House was novel and worth one or two nights stay. The location is also really nice. It's a 3 minute drive or 20 minute walk from one of ZhangJiaJie park's entrances. The hotel itself is very quiet and feels like a get-away resort. I loved my stay there and would stay there again.

    Beyond ordinary immersive experience
I've stayed at a lot of hotels this year, I'm Diamond with Hilton, Plantinum with Marriott, Gold with IHG and Discoverist with Hyatt. This stay was my most favorite one by far. The amenities are what you would expect, nice clean sheets and towels, a pool but that's not why you come. This place is a little oasis of nature. There is a little bit of walk up to get there but they came down and carried all my things up, once up it doesn't matter. You have a view of the mountains and cocooned from society. You're not in a hotel, you're in a collection of Chinese Chalets 200 years old but renovated to be modern and new buildings such as the Glass House. I stayed in the Glass House and it was great, a different experience from the norm, but I really fell for the other rooms that Long Wu, the owner and designer showed in the reconverted family chalet. It was a traditional immersive experience but with all the modern comforts you would come to expect. The attention to traditional craftsmanship and details is amazing. The family and staff make you feel more than welcome and the whole place has an excellent vibe that is shared with the other guests. You can choose to eat on site and I suggest you do, it is delicious. I didn't leave when I was supposed to, I stayed a few more hours since it was just good being there. I didn't want to leave but alas, the world awaits. This place is a strong recommend.

Extremely helpful and friendly place. It’s more like a home stay than a hotel, but in this case that’s a good thing. It’s a family run hotel owned by a tujia family (tujia = one of China’s many minorities). Serves great home cooked food, both tujia dishes and Chinese “favorites”. The glass house is good but the tujia historic house with 100+ years of history is even better.
