The Carlina is what a top-flight hotel used to be like, excellent facilities and truly excellent and welcoming staff, not the modern-day substitute of brushed stainless, white stone and pre-programmed, so-called five-star service. If you like the modern kind, go elsewhere. If you want the real thing, go to the Carlina. You'll have to forego the show Bentley at the door. It's a small sacrifice. What a pleasure to still find a hotel of this quality in the alps … or anywhere for that matter. Moreover, for evenings when going out to the excessively expensive Courchevel restaurants--whose cuisine rarely matches the bill--doesn't seem that appealing, the hotel's dining room and kitchen are very good. Nice!
