    Short break in Castleton

We arrived at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Castleton on Sunday afternoon, We were welcomed warmly. We were encouraged to book in for our evening meal - which we did. We stayed in Room 3. Room 3 is a small double room, with a small en suite shower room. Unfortunately, the toilet seat didn't stay up - which is a problem for blokes! My husband wasn't impressesd. The only window in the room was a sky light directly above the bed. There was no way of opening this for ventilation. There was no way of covering the window for sleep time. Our evening meal was mediocre. We didn't eat there again, as we were staying there for 3 nights, and the veggie choices were very limited! Due to COVID19 restrictions, servicing of the rooms was obviously limited, however, refreshing the towels etc was no problem at all. All in all we had a lovely stay in a lovely village.

    Basic, value?

It’s a basic on the street side pub with rooms. Very noise if you get a room facing main road. No real bike store - had mine at kitchen entrance locked to a prep bench…. Breakfast not till 8.45…..or cereal and toast by cleaner!

I've just returned from a one night stay at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn. The staff were all lovely and incredibly helpful. My room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. Nice quality bedding and towels too. Current government Covid guidelines adhered to. Table service only, hand sanitiser available, one way system in place etc. I ate at the pub in the evening. They were rather busy, so there was a little bit of a wait, nothing major, but the staff were still very apologetic. Good choice at breakfast. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast. (fruit, cereal etc was additionally available as was the usual cooked English and Eggs Benedict). No measly portions, so I was well set up for another day's walking. All in all, very happy.

The pub bit was great, food great. The actually hotel side of the B&H was not so great small tiny room not a nice bed and the rules for coming and going were terrible (can’t leave before 7am and locked in at 23:30) breakfast starts serving at 08:30 which is crazy late. Overall great for a pub lunch not great place to stay.

    Cosy country pub stay

This was a lovely country pub with all the qualities you would expect. The room was small but warm cosy and comfortable. Breakfast was the best, hot and freshly made. The quiz night was great fun. We stayed for 2 nights in December and really enjoyed our time there.

    Pleasant but basic

Stayed on a Thursday night. Greeted pleasantly upon arrival and shown directly to our room whilst being given info on breakfast and checkout etc. Room was large clean and basic. Bed had a slight slope to the mattress on one side but pillows and duvet very comfy. We were able to hear a lot of noise from the room above, talking, walking, flushing etc Breakfast was very nice.
