Where to stay near Umeda

Navasota offers a great Texan getaway just a stone’s throw from the student town of College Station. However, this little town isn’t as quiet as it first seems. In 2005, it was named “The Blues Capital of Texas” in honor of the great ‘60s blues musician Mance Lipscomb. The city continues this music legacy today, with fantastic blues stores and memorabilia and a thriving jazz scene. There are also a few more surprises to be uncovered, both in Navasota and a short journey away.

Things to see in Navasota

Walk down the Navasota Blues Alley to get into the swing of the city’s beat. Located in the heart of the downtown district, this street features an antiques emporium where you can find authentic jazz records, retro posters, or even steel-stringed guitars. There’s also a blues museum detailing the lives of some of the city’s famous blues visitors, like Blind Willie Johnson and Texas Alexander, as well as a statue of the legend Mance Lipscomb strumming his guitar outside. But for live music entertainment, head no further than The Western Club Bar and Grill. This warm and welcoming venue puts on jazz, blues, and country shows by local musicians almost every day of the week. They can also whip you up a tasty grilled steak and fries. However, for a quieter side to the region, head to the nearby Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site. This location holds great significance as the site where the Texan Declaration of Independence was signed.
