Where to stay in Nevada
Hotels in Nevada
Luxury hotels in Nevada are some of the most famous in the world, thanks to the many 5-star hotels on Las Vegas Strip. Many consider staying in one of the city’s famous resorts to be a vital part of the Vegas experience, but if budget is your priority, the market is awash with cheap rooms, and Nevada hotel deals and discounts in Las Vegas can be found. Leaving Las Vegas brings you back to a certain degree of normality, with a good choice of low- to mid-range hotels and motels in Nevada, from a mixture of independent establishments and well-known chains.
Things to see in Nevada
Las Vegas is the biggest tourist attraction in Nevada. Famed for its casinos and flamboyant entertainment, many of the major hotels such as the New York-New York, the Venetian, and the Excalibur are attractions in their own right. Reno, Nevada’s second city, is also a popular casino hub. In stark contrast, the rest of Nevada is sparsely populated and set within formidable landscapes. Death Valley National Park is located to the west, and The Valley of Fire, Nevada’s oldest and largest state park named for its dramatic red rock formations, lies an hour to the northeast of Las Vegas. From one extreme to another, head northwest to the Sierra Nevada, where overlooking Lake Tahoe you will find several great ski resorts. Nevada’s isolation has made it popular with hardy road-trippers. Highway 50 stretches across the Nevada Desert and Great Basin, earning the title “loneliest road in America.” An official survival guide is available, including information on the sights and recreational activities along the way.
Where to stay in Nevada
Las Vegas is unquestionably the place to stay for casinos, nightlife, and indulgence. But contrary to what you might assume, there are many family-friendly hotels in Nevada to be found in Las Vegas. Many large resorts offer a variety of activities and facilities for children: from water parks, to movie theaters, bowling, rollercoaster rides, and more. If you are more interested in experiencing Nevada’s great outdoors, camping in one of the many state park facilities is a convenient and welcoming option. State capital, Carson City, is a relaxed location which provides a good base from which to enjoy outdoor activities during the day, including the nearby Lake Tahoe.
How to get to Nevada
Nevada’s largest airport is McCarran International in Las Vegas, serving major domestic routes and numerous nonstop transatlantic destinations. Reno is served by a small regional airport. By train, the Amtrak California Zephyr connects Reno with San Francisco and Salt Lake City, continuing all the way to New York. The main Interstate Highways are I-80, connecting Reno with Sacramento and Salt Lake City, and I-15 connecting Las Vegas with Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Towns along the interstates are served by Greyhound bus services into California.
