Disappointing
Initially I was very surprised as the online photos do not do justice to this magnificent hotel. It is huge and the decoration inside beautiful. Unfortunately, my elation was quickly erased when I got into my first room. In general, the room was fantastic with a huge king size bed that has to be the most comfortable that I have ever slept on. However, my booking said, 'a room with a balcony' but I not only had no balcony but the view was terrible (water tanks or whatever) and the window was covered in paint or filth! Then I came to the first night and found that it was not possible to adjust the air conditioning. It was locked at 23 degrees and would not change, no matter what setting you entered. Needless to say, 23 degrees is much too warm to sleep in. I was forced to sleep on top of the bed with no covers! So I inquired about the balcony (there are no balconies!) and the air conditioning. I was given another room (they said it was an upgrade - I don't think so!!). That room was bigger than the previous one, very spacious, wonderful bed and ornate fittings but the air conditioning again refused to respond to my inputs. I was told that the entire floor had been shut off and I was given a pedestal fan for the room. Really!
There was supposed to be a Western restaurant, it was clearly signed as such but it served only Chinese food, which just happened to be the same as breakfast. The breakfast food was cold nearly every morning! And there was no bar to get a drink at night.
