Salamanca

What you need to know before you go

Salamanca is nicknamed La Dorada, or the Golden One, for its ornate sandstone architecture, much of which is centuries old. Examples are dotted throughout the enchanting city, from the Universidad de Salamanca, which was founded in the 1100s, to the Plaza Mayor.

The city's focal point, Plaza Mayor is a sprawling square flanked by Baroque architecture, and boasts restaurants, ice cream parlors, and jewelry boutiques. There's more to the city than just great buildings, however. Salamanca brims with culture, great food and wine, and a vibrant nightlife fuelled by its international student population.
