Petite Formentera is the smallest of the Spanish Balearic Islands, known for its peaceful pace and beaches that look like they're from the pages of a glossy magazine. While its brash neighbor Ibiza has plenty to see and do, Formentera doesn't have much in the way of cultural attractions or historic sites.

But, in between sailing, snorkeling or enjoying the sugar-white sands and crystal clear waters, you probably won't notice. However, you will find plenty of bars and restaurants, a chapel and a few 18th-century watchtowers, and just enough hotels so as not to ruin the island's unmatched idyll.
