I really wanted to support a local family owned motel in Kanab and so I chose Aiken's Lodge. At no fault of their own, the owners had to leave town and couldn't find staffing to run the front office. We arrived late in the evening to find a note one door to walk a few blocks down to the Best Western to check in. No problem, but concerning at first.
It's obvious the rooms have been updated with new carpet and furniture, and updated bathrooms. However, the shower was still vintage 50's or 60's which was dissapointing. The AC unit struggled throughout, and was loud, and probably needs to be retired.
As a way to earn extra income for the property, a food truck was parked an in business next to the classic truck. It seemed out of place.
The location on the main street through town is perfect and allowed for walking to various shops and restaurants. Loved that!
Finally, if the owners could find a way to create a public gathering event each evening - perhaps around the pool or the unused fire pits, it would have made for a much more festive atmosphere for guests to meet one another and share stories about their adventures in the area.
