Beautiful Schwarzwald-Stollen
The building was built as a restaurant only in 1847, later it evolved into a hotel&restaurant. Currently the fifth generation of the owning family is in charge.
If you want to lodge in a place buried deep in Schwarzwald, you will wake up hearing birds singing and beautiful sound of Elz streaming nearby.
Hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff is tremendously helping.

Great hotel, friendly staff.
Satnav took us to the road, but we had difficulty finding the hotel. Fortunately a kind German lady gave us directions. Parking was not on site but literally across the road. The receptionist was lovely and spoke excellent English. She showed us to our room that was very large and had lovely views. The bathroom in particular was a little tired looking. There was only one small pillow for each occupant when we really needed two each. After a good nights sleep the breakfast was lovely and again, the receptionist was most kind.
Really would recommend this hotel to anyone, only don't forget to ask for additional pillows.

A Wonderful Beginning to Our Black Forest Trip
Very charming inn with antiques and lots of character! Lovely setting next to a river with an easy (10-15 minutes) walk to the train station. Using trains and buses you can still explore the area without a car, albeit not as conveniently. Alexandra couldn't have been friendlier without coming across as less genuinely interested. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel in the Black Forest area
We liked the hotel. It wasn't fancy (about what we expected from a 3-star hotel). The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was good. The view was lovely and we enjoyed having a balcony even though it wasn't warm out. We used this as a base to explore other parts of the Black Forest by car, and we liked that it wasn't in a big town - no noise, no parking issues. The only downside was the strong smell of smoke in the stairway on several occasions. It didn't get in our room, though.

You must have a car!!!
This is an authentic German old style hotel with German bed and decoration and wonderful breakfast presentation. You need a car to enjoy the area as Gutach has only a train platform dropoff, no taxi, no phone. The staff spoke English and was very friendly.

Easter visit
Great accommodation and very friendly staff. Even the neighbours one of whom gave us a ride from the train station! Topped off the stay with a visit from the Easter bunny who left us a beautiful basket full of treats.

Excellent Management Staff
Great hotel and restaurant! Centrally located to several sites in the Black Forest. The hotel staff was excellent and very attentive. We were caught out in a snow storm one night and did not make it back to the hotel until the following morning, so the staff extended breakfast hours and our check-out time (with no extra charge) to give us time to eat, rest, and pack. We will stay here again when we go back to the Black Forest.

Fantastic service, good food
Its a rustic B/B type hotel with a lot of character. The personal attention of the staff at this hotel was very good and a pleasant surprise. We received lots of advice on what to see and do in the Schwartzwald region. We ate both breakfast and dinner and it was good quality. As this hotel doesn't have much in the immediate vicinity, its best to plan on having a car. However, Waldkirch is just down the road with restaurants, bars and most important - bakeries! Only negative was the smoky smell in the halls. We stayed at 4 hotels that were at least 4 star in 7 days and this was by far the best service we had in Germany.

Lovely country hotel, quiet with charming views
The family who own the hotel could not be more helpful or kind. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Their restaurant for dinner is very good too and well priced for the quality.wide range of wines etc available too. Location is quiet and relaxing but close to the fast road to Freiburg further south. Would definitely recommend it and will stay there again . Countryside around is really beautiful.

Quaint country hotel
Lovely 4 poster bed(though two single mattresses) arrived ~ 9:45pm and were just about to close reception but received a warm welcome. Stay as we imagined-old traditional country styling, breakfast good selection-though flies around which was common theme at other hotels also. Room smelled smoke free.

great hotel
Stayed 2 nights - Really liked the hotel, very characterful. Ate in restaurant one night - excellent food. Wished we had eaten there 2nd night too as where we went in next village was not very good at all (unfortunately cannot remember name of place)
Friendly helpful staff
however as highlighted in previous reviews map is misleading as hotel is on a fairly busy road. but this did not affect our stay and we would stay again if in the area.

Typical Black Forest Hotel
A very welcoming Hotel. Our room was on the top floor which gave some lovely views across the valley from our balcony. As bird watchers we were treated to views of Red Kites, Storks and Buzzards while we sat on the balcony. Lovely countryside with a great circular walk around the local forest. The restaurant was also of a high standard with a wide choice for breakfast and fine evening cuisine.

Schwarzwald Hotel in Stollen
we had a bit of an adventure on our way to the hotel... we took a wrong turn onto a farm road and got stuck in mud! My wife was upset when we arrived, but that quickly changed. We had been upgraded to a suite, and what a delight it was. We cleaned up and went to dinner in the hotel restaurant. One our best 10 dining experiences ever! The food was gourmet quality and the vegetables were the freshest imaginable. The ambiance of the hotel seemed to sum up the best of the Schwarzwald with its never ending charm. We were given personal attention by Alexandra and her staff. We even had a table reserved for us each morning at breakfast. We loved it so much that we hated to leave. We give this hotel our highest recommendation without hesitation. We will come back again.
