Very poor value for money
I was very disappointed with my stay. We had two rooms booked which were quite expensive and the rooms did not represent the level that was paid and i felt were very poor value for money. The bedroom furniture was quite basic and not what i would expect of a 4 star hotel (i would not grade this as 4 star) and the rooms are quite small (although being an old property i knew this would probably be the case). The worst thing though is the standard of cleaning in the rooms. On arrival, one of the bathrooms had not been cleaned thoroughly, the toilet in particular. The other bedroom had not had its bin emptied and contained all the rubbish from the previous occupant full to the top (indicating it had not been emptied for a while). These are basic levels of cleanliness that is expected from a hotel and this hotel has let itself down in that respect.
The pros are that the service at reception and breakfast is friendly, the breakfast is good and the location in the old centre close to the winter market is excellent and only a short walk away.

A very nice hotel I would return to
The hotel and staff were excellent. I would stay here again. The hotel is located within the old town area and is mostly pedestrian. There is some parking at 17 Euro per night but it is limited and tight. The standard room is a bit small but who comes to Salzburg to sit in a hotel room. There are many excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. A warning about the area is to keep a watchful eye out for cyclists - it seems they have the right of way over pedestrians!

Modern with old soul vibe
So cool that this 19th century hotel is still a beacon in Salzburg, right in the heart of old town at the bottom of the castle. So cozy & modern with old soul vibe

Getting to the property is hard because the old town is closed off to most cars after 11am. You need a code to get into the area, so you have to call them for the code and then get in. Once we were there it was nice enough. Front desk gentleman was curt, our bathroom did not look like it was cleaned very well. The bed was comfy and there was a fan and we could bring in the cool air from the window before bed. The room was nice and the breakfast was good. The location was excellent!

Gut gelegenes Hotel in der Altstadt
Hotel gut gelegen (Altstadt). Frühstücksbüffet sehr gut. Freundliches Personal. Zimmer sauber.
Zimmer entspricht jedoch nicht 4 Sternen: nüchtern, ohne Bilder an den grauen Wänden, direkt nach der Eingangstüre Lavabo mit Spiegel.

Reception was very helpful in explaining things and making reservations for us. Parking wasn't that convenient - though I gather it's not convenient anywhere in the Old Town - mainly they provided a slight discount on the parking we'd have had to rely on anyway. Due to heatwave fan was fine, but AC would have been preferred, though that is rare to find in many cities of Europe. Rooms also lacked mini-fridges. Shower was a little tricky to operate and could have used a door.

the rooms are incredibly hot in simmer months without AC. They provide fans, but they just move the hot air around.

Hotel near the Salzburg Music Festival
The location of the hotel is great for the Music Festival event that is just 10 minutes away walking. The room was very small and terribly hot with no air conditioning and just a couple of cooling fans. Breakfast was ok and a reasonable Italian restaurant has a direct access from the hotel.

Historic hotel in old Salzburg. You need to go eat a code from the hotel to drive into and out of the gated old town, which was tricky as the code changes hourly. Rooms were nice, and staff was helpful. Great breakfast.

We reserved two large suites for a multi generation family time. The rooms were great, breakfast was fine. We were disappointed that the AC was not adequate. We were promised a new AC unit, which never materialized. Staff should not promise what they will not deliver. The location is superb.

Our family vacation at the Altstadthotel Kasererbräu was nothing short of delightful. Nestled in the heart of Salzburg, the hotel's location proved incredibly convenient, allowing us easy access to local attractions and transit. The historical charm of the hotel was matched by its cleanliness and the courteous service provided by the friendly staff. Staying in the room once graced by the iconic Romy Schneider added a touch of glamour to our stay. It was a memorable experience that combined luxury with the comfort of feeling at home. The hotel's commitment to maintaining a pristine environment and their attentive service truly made our family vacation special.
