Coron is most famous as an outstanding place to go scuba diving. The peaceful municipality in the Philippines was the site of a devastatingly effective bombing raid by the US Navy during the Second World War, sending about a dozen vessels of the Imperial Japanese Navy to the seafloor. They mostly settled at depths between 10 and 40 metres – perfectly within recreational diving limits.
Even if wrecks aren’t your thing, the reef diving and snorkelling in Coron is excellent. There are plenty of other beautiful natural sights to see, including pristine freshwater lakes and lagoons. If all that sounds like too much hard work, there’s no shortage of beaches to chill out on.
