Where to begin?
This is a jewel of a hotel, located in a spectacular mountain setting, with multiple lifts and godolas just a stroll away from the door.
From the moment we drove up, we were THRILLED! The facade is magnificent, with a large terrace bedecked with flowers. Greeting at reception was personalized and friendly. Our room was one of the very recently done, and it had every possible amenity, from iPOD dock to huge closets and a fabulous shower.
This hotel has so much going for it. Its private gardens are beautifully tended. There is a lovely library, with books in several languages and a computer for guest use, gratis. There is a very large indoor pool in a grotto-like setting, as well as a heated outdoor pool. There is a Finnish sauna, another sauna, and a saline-drip room, replete with birch twigs and natural saltwater drip, said to be good for bronchitis and breathing; my husband said it did wonders for him!
Gastronomy is taken seriously at Saalbacher Hof, which has a more formal dining room, where half board guests are served breakfast and dinner, as well as a beautiful, traditional alpine Wirtshaus featuring regional specialties like crispy Wiener schnitzel, myriad soups and salads, and local pork, veal, and beef dishes. Dinner for half board guests is quite an affair---multiple courses, all thoughtfully and artistically prepared and served.
We hated to leave this delightful and perfectly run hotel. Truly a gem!
