Whilst I was basically happy staying at Ocean Edge, the rooms are dated and not what many travellers from Europe or Australasia might expect. In my particular suite, Ocean Panorama, neither the toilet button or bath plug button worked properly. The bathroom was either unkempt, aged or dirty. Room cleaning staff were young males, very polite, friendly and helpful. Room cleaning or tidying was, however, fairly cursory. Reception staff were more or less either unwelcoming or passive. I was not ‘welcomed’ at any time during my stay, notwithstanding the reception area adjoins the lifts. Breakfast buffet was varied and tasty. Breakfast room staff were, again, either somewhat friendly or passive. On departure at 4.30am, the night reception staff member asked if I had used any of the fridge contents, Mars bar and some drinks to a value of less than $10, and I said no. The contents had been checked each day in any event. The reception staff member then phoned someone to check if my statement was true and I had to wait for some poor chap to access the room and make sure I wasn’t telling untruths. No ‘I hope you enjoyed your stay. Please come again. Etc.’
