Zubeida is ‘ok’ but not special
Our stay at Zubeida was pleasant but nothing special. We expected a higher level of service for the price we paid. While the food, staff and surroundings were nice, we were somewhat disappointed with their inability to secure bookings for fun activities in the area. The beach area is full of local men trying to sell boat trips (be warned: don’t expect a walk along the beach without getting hassled a few times). On one occasion, the vendor we spoke to was clearly running a scam. When we asked the hotel, they simply gave us a WhatsApp number for someone who might be able to help us book. When he was busy (as was the case over Christmas), we weren’t left with much support and subsequently didn’t do any of the activities we planned. The Zubeida website is misleading to suggest they can organise all this stuff for guests! We recommend to Zubeida that they put more time into supporting visitors with activities, restaurant recommendations etc - especially for those new to Kenya - it would have made our stay much better! In general, I think a better level of ‘concierge’ service is required to justify the high cost. We found that we had to extract information from them, as opposed to them having the information ready to share with us. Eating directly in the villa is nice, but the restaurant area around the pool is pretty ordinary. And that summed up our stay really - pleasant but not memorable, and no service that went beyond the bare minimum.
